3.8(out of 4.0) unweighted, 4.0(out of 4.0) weighted</p>

2070 (680 Math, 720 Writing, 670 Critical Reading)</p>

<p>I didn't send in SAT II's.</p>

<p>**My school only offers 4 AP classes for seniors.
I'm awful at calculus, but I wanted to take the most difficult math course offered at my school, so I went for cal BC AP (last year I took pre calculus because calculus AB wasn't offered). I am very concerned about my calculus semester grade. It's not like I didn't try, and it's not like I'm bad at math. I made A's in all of my previous math classes. I guess calculus just isn't my thing :/</p>

<p>Major: Classics
I love Latin and all things Roman! I was on the 1st place team at this year's National Junior Classical League certamen competition (a classics/Latin competition similar to an academic bowl). It was pretty intense... Classics is my passion! Does this make me more interesting than, say, an applicant who wants to major in biology or English (since biology and English are much more popular majors)? I have the extracurriculars to back me up (aside from my 1st place certamen medal, I also have many awards from different JCL competitions ranging from Greek Derivatives to Greek Mythology). With this all being evident, will my bad semester grade in calculus still be my downfall? </p>

<p>Good EC’s. No your grade in calculus will not be your downfall. Im fairly sure you were required to send in two SAT subject tests one of which being Math II. Davidson is very hard to “chance” for because their admissions is based on what kind of person you are and what you would bring to the campus. Their main academic focus is writing so if you submitted good essays and have high grades in accelerated English courses then your academics are solid in Davidson’s standards.</p>

<p>You aren’t required to send in two subject tests… it’s “recommended”, but not required. Guitarist is definitely right on everything else though. Davidson will reject people with near perfect GPAs and great SAT scores and admit people who have great, but not stellar, GPAs and SATS, like me. I had great essays and recommendations though, I’m sure that’s what made the difference for me. Davidson’s application is much more holistic than many similar schools.</p>

<p>One factor will never make or break your application for Davidson, so I want to reiterate that, for example, you need not worry about the calculus performance. My grades were pretty pitiful (I had under a 3.0 in high school). But I went to a good high school, I had a beautiful essay, I’m sure my recs were pretty good, I took lots of APs, was involved in a lot of activities and lead in several of them, and had solid SATs and Subject Tests…so the fact that I had a B-/C+ OVERALL average did not bring me down :)</p>

<p>Basically, you’ll get in if 1) Davidson thinks it’s a match for you; 2) Davidson thinks you can handle the work; 3) Davidson thinks you have strong morals and good character; and 4) Davidson has enough room to admit you.</p>

<p>They consider essay more than any other school I know of. Davidson also takes interest into account, and sibling and parental legacy status. They really do look at the big picture.</p>

<p>There are no guarantees, of course, but I think it’s reasonable to say you have a pretty good chance! Just keep your options open, hope for the best, and know that wherever you do end up, you will probably be very happy!</p>

<p>I forgot to mention that as well- I actually visited the campus three times and filled out information each time I visited. That sort of demonstrated interest helps out a ton as well, even more so if you applied regular decision. I live in South Carolina though, so I know visiting multiple times isn’t possible for everyone. </p>

<p>& I don’t actually go to Davidson yet, haha. I’m actually a senior, I was accepted early decision II (: I’m SO excited for next year, though!</p>

PS. I think your Roman and Latin ECs set you apart from the rest of the pool. Sorry don’t know much about Davidson specifically, but I came to see if I had a chance of getting in by comparing myself to you and I find it funny that you have my EXACT SAT score :P</p>
