A district award for cello playing

Right now, I'm slightly concerned about my grades, because they are on the low side because I did slightly worse in my soph/junior year.

What chances do I have at UMich (applying in September), U of Chicago, Brown, Northwestern, and Stanford? I really do like U of Chicago's Econ program, and I have MSU (Mich State U) as a safety.

Please don't bump me (if you do you might as well not be on this section of CC) and good luck with your apps!

UMich (in-state)--Safe Match to Match
U of Chicago (Econ) --Match to Slight Reach (toughest major at this school)
Brown--Match
Northwestern --Match
Stanford (Econ)--Slight Reach to Reach (depends upon ECs and awards)
Michigan State--Safety

Everything looks great, but you need to realize that economics is probably the toughest major to get into at Stanford. And they pick people not just on academics, but also on athletics, contacts, future fame for the school, etc.
(For example: Are you aware that Mike Mussina, the starting pitcher for the New York Yankees, graduated with an economics undergraduate degree from Stanford?, Are you aware that Tiger Woods was also an economics major at Stanford?)

Good luck.

****I'm applying undecided to EVERY university except for U Chicago.

Thanks alot for your time!!!!

Anyone else? I would really, really appreciate it ...

UMich - Safety/Match
U of Chicago - High Match
Northwestern - High Match/Reach
Brown - Reach
Stanford - High Reach

Thanks for chancing me! :) and good luck in your applications!

Anyone else? I'd really appreciate it!

THanks for writing on my thread!! :D

UMich-Safe
U of Chicago-Slight reach/Match
Brown-Reach, just because it's one of the Ivies and they are peckish about GPA.
Northwestern-Match
Stanford-Reach, again, same reason.

I'd say none of them are really out of your league even though you don't have a 4.0 that the elite schools seem to admire so very much, your EC's are very strong and your standardized test scores are pretty much amazing. I really like the fact that you took the initiative to take a hard AP class in your sophomore year, and they are going to like it too. Focus on writing a brilliant essay, don't miss any deadlines, and you're set! :) and don't forget to relax/chill a little during the summer ;)

I would say that you have a pretty good chance of getting into any of the schools except Stanford and that is because getting into Stanford is a complete crapshot. UMich is a safety, U of Chicago is a match to a low reach, Northwester is a match, I would say Brown is a reach just because it's an Ivy.

Thanks for your reply on my chances thread and I hope you're right!

UMich - In
U of Chicago - I can almost guarantee your essays will make the decision (they're essay-crazed and you're definitely qualified in every other way)
Northwestern - You can never be sure, but I think you have a decent shot
Brown - Crapshoot: Prolly depends on your luck.
Stanford - Crapshoot: way too random to predict. Cross your fingers?

Sorry if it's not what you want to hear, but I don't want to get your hopes up unnecessarily! Like I said, I think you have a great chance at U Chicago (which is best for economics on your list IMHO right after Stanford); just make those essays amazing. Good luck!

here we go.......

UMich - match
U of Chicago - reach (do good with your essays)
Northwestern - reach/high match (econ also popular major here)
Brown - reach
Stanford - reach

good luck, op.

Hey, thanks for chancing me. Now to reciprocate the favor....

UMich- Match
U of Chicago- High Match
Northwestern- Reach
Brown- Reach
Stanford- Reach

Good luck to you!

Thanks for chancing me, but unfortunately I don't really know much about chancing people...

I'm sure MSU's a safety for you. You saw my stats, and I consider it (hopefully correctly) to be a safety for me, and your stats are higher than mine...

And I'm sure UMich is a match.

UMich (in-state)--Safety/pretty good match
U of Chicago (Econ) --Slight Match
Brown--Match
Northwestern --Match
Stanford (Econ)--Reach (make sure your essays are original and clever)
Michigan State--Safety

All the components look great! It's all just waiting it out and writing tremendous essays from here!

UMich - Match
Uof Chicago - high match/low reach
Brown - reach
NW - match
stanford - reach
michigan state - im not sure

can you chance me at
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/539924-wharton-ed-mit-cornell-harvard-chances.html

you have really good EC and SAT.ACT and your grades are pretty good as well. i just think that you should focus in a specific area like econ for chicago. show that in your EC and it will really help you out
UMich (in-state)--safety
U of Chicago (Econ) --Match/ little reach because of major
Brown--Match also very expensive
Northwestern --Match
Stanford (Econ)-- Reach
Michigan State--Safety

Thanks for chancing me. Your ECs and SAT are excellent, but not necessarily outstanding. To get into Standford, you need to differentiate yourself from hundreds of students with similar records. You definitely need to write impressive essays to boost your chance. Nevertheless, I think you do have a fairly good chance to get into a top school.

Sorry, I'm really not familiar with any of those schools except Stanford, which is probably your reach. Your courseload looks challenging, and your SAT/ACT scores are high. Your GPA is good, but might look stronger if your school ranked? Also, your ECs look strong, but don't really convey a passion IMO. Oh and I've heard Stanford is a "crapshoot" anyways. Soooo good luck!

UMich (in-state)--safety
U of Chicago (Econ) --low reach
Brown--Low reach
Northwestern --high-match
Stanford (Econ): High reach (but you never know....)
Michigan State: Safety

You seem like the perfect candidate for all of those schools. Now all you have to worry about are the other applicants who are just as perfect! If I were you, I would start my essays ASAP (especially U of Chicago's)

Thanks for chancing me! Returning the favor!

Here's my thoughts:
UMAH - Safe match
U of Chicago - Slight reach
Northwestern - Slight Reach
Brown - Reach
Stanford - Reach
MSU - In no matter what

You're academics are just short of excellent...a 2300+ would probably put you in even stronger position for attainment. How active are you in your EC's though? And do you have a strong position in them? I think that even though your EC's look impressive, they may not count for much unless you can have a title or award to back it all up.

Your scores and GPA are pretty good, and I think you have awesome chances of getting into UMich. However, I'm not quite familiar with Brown or Northwestern enough to chance you. I would say that U of Chicago and Stanford would be reaches and would just depend on your essays, especially with U of Chicago. With Stanford, my friend who goes there says every person has something they're very passionate about and excels in, so make sure you capitalize on that.

Thanks for all of your advice btw!!
