hokay, so, I'm a Sophomore in a really good public High School right now, just wondering -at this rate- where I can go to college. I got a couple good ideas from another site - but I'd like some other opinions.

W GPA: ~4.0

AP: Human Geography, World History, Psychology, German (4-5 on all)
+a course or two at a community college

ACT: 30
SAT: 1900
i could probs bring these up...

Rank: top 25%, but school doesn't send rank to college

ECs:

Debate Team (10-12)
Environment Peace Club (10-12, leader position 11&12)
My school's leadership club (10-12, leadership position 11)

Tobacco-Free Club - made my town's parks and most places tobacco-free - 150 hours of volunteering (10-11, leadership position)

Chance me for:
UMich
University of Wisconsin-Madison
University of Washington
University of MN-Twin Cities
Hamline University
Macalester
St. Thomas University

and.. be honest.. do i have the slightest chance at..
Cornell
Colgate
University of Chicago
Northwestern

It’s a little difficult to chance you because you’re only a sophmore. I’ll try my best. Your test scores are promising continuing how early it is, try to keep pushing them up. Your GPA is alright, but you should try to keep it from dropping any farther than 3.75 with that strength of schedule.

You have a lot of ECA’s, but I recommend getting involved with more leadership so that colleges can see you have commitment in these and aren’t just going to a lot of meetings.

UMich - on track for match
University of Wisconsin-Madison - on track for low match
University of Washington - on track for low match
University of MN-Twin Cities - safety
Macalester - on track for low reach

Cornell - unlikely
Colgate - reach
University of Chicago - higher reach
Northwestern - reach

thanks!!! I can’t believe the University of MN would be my safety, that’s awesome. This is pretty much how i think ill do/what i think ill do during the next few years. i havent taken those ap tests yet but that’s my predicted schedule/scores so far. Thanks for the great advice! I’ll definitely seek out some leadership positions!

Any more opinions? Or any colleges that are like equal to UMich?

It is pretty hard to chance you but as of right now everything looks good. What did you get on you AP tests??? and get a little more service hours. Chance me please

UMich- looks like a match (frosh year doesn’t matter, so its tough to tell as a sophomore)
University of Wisconsin-Madison- low match
University of Washington- high safety
University of MN-Twin Cities- safety
Hamline University- in
Macalester- high match
St. Thomas University- in
Cornell- reach
Colgate- low reach
University of Chicago- reach
Northwestern- reach

You need to work on your SATs. Apres, things should be good

your gpa is a little low, but your ACT score isn’t too bad!

University of Wisconsin-Madison
University of Washington
University of MN-Twin Cities
^ these are most likely matches. and if you’re in-state for UM, it could be a match too. just get your grades up, and show passion in your essay(s)! that’s very important in order to stand out from a group of applicants.

What do you want to do? I was a big fan when I visited Carlson at U of Minnesota. I think you’ll be in at UMTC, both UWs, Macalester, St. Thomas, Hamline, and Michigan. I think you have very little shot at UC, but Northwestern seems like a possibility. Personally, I’d prefer Minnesota to Northwestern, but I guess that’s just preference.

I would try to pump up your ACT/SAT scores as much as you could. That might move the bottom four on your list from reaches to high match/low reach.

Thanks guys! I’m interested in either Non-profit management (business) or psychology/neuroscience, but i’m leaning towards business. I’ve heard great things about Carlson! I’ll definitely try to bring up the scores & stuff.

Also wondering, with my grades/scores/ECs do i have a good chance for scholarships/grants/aid for UMTC?

Sounds like you’re definitely on the right track. Keep up your grades, retake the ACT/SAT and you’ll be good to go!
