^guitarpleyar is actually being a little generous i think, to be honest…

but you are a strong candidate. it’s just not fair to tell you that you will get in/match those schools because nobody really knows. Get your SATs up, they’re a bit on the weak side for Ivies and Northwestern.

What one needs to remember is that at the pace NU is increasing it’s admission standards (SAT scores average is up to 1442 from 1428 for class of 2012, 91% are now in 10% of their class, up from 83%) that they are really starting to make a push towards having a very strong, and very competitive student body.

From a current student’s perspective (and mind you I’ve never really considered true what I’m about to say) Northwestern is no longer an Ivy “backup”. I think that title, if it should even exist, is moving along to school like WashU and company. In years past, yes, you probably would have proven to have been an above average competitive candidate for admission. Now, however, I do not believe that is the case any longer. It is hard to say definitively if a student with a 1400 on the SAT (which is awesome, believe me) will get into Northwestern. Because now, that score is below average.

Northwestern has around 25000 applicants per year, and I think that they are just now beginning to accept the very best.

You are a good student who should be in the mix of the competition at a number of top schools, including NU, but you are far from a shoo-in at the best schools.
You are obviously aware of the points against you: your SAT Reading score is poor for NU. Is English your second language? If so, make that clear (and also make sure someone proofreads your essay and application very carefully, because your spelling is poor and your grammar could use work too). THe other negative is what you cite as your “cons.” Do you expect the school to report that or omit it? If it’s reported, it won’t help, I can assure you.

Wow thanks a bunch for the information! Yes I really like Northwestern because it seems to be growing, and it seems to be getting better & better.

you have a pretty high chance of getting in right now, especially if you retake the SAT and raise your critical reading score.
i think your summer activities really help and your rec letters sound good. just write a great essay and you have a high chance!
chance me back?

if you retake the SAT and get a 2150+, Northwestern can be considered a match
