I think you have a great shot at a majority of the schools (MIT, Chicago, Amherst, Bowdoin, and Colby). You story is very similar to my friends who applied to most of the Ivy Leagues (Brown, Princeton, Yale, Stanford, Harvard), and was Rejected from all of them. I think you have a great shot because Ivy Leagues want your overseas experience and SAT scores. Would you like to chance me now?

I definitely agree with the retake. If you get 2250+ like you hope, you have a good shot at every school on that list. Good luck! Chance me back?

If you get that 2250+ you will have a good chance at getting into over half of those schools

With all due respect, I wonder how much the posters above me know about the college admissions process.

I’ll be frank: You are a good student. You have good (but not amazing, though I cannot judge because I do not know your circumstances) EC’s. Academically speaking, you are sound, though the SAT is on the low side.

The problem is, in terms of the most competitive colleges on your list, that they are wickedly competitive, and even more so for international applicants. With this said, I don’t see anything that makes you pop out in your application (though your essays and LoR will be important, so that could be one factor that could tip things in your favor if they are quite good). Though I am confident you will be able to get into some schools such as Carleton, schools such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT, and the other competitive ones on your list should be regarded as very high reaches.

^in addition to what the poster above me said, a lot of these schools don’t provide full need based financial aid to internationals.

I’ll just have to try my luck then … Thanks a lot for the inputs everyone :)
