Please chance me! I've never done this before...

Please chance for Stanford, Pomona, Williams, Dartmouth, Middlebury, Duke, and Swarthmore, McGill, Cal, UC San Diego (out-of-state resident). Thank you!

State: New York
School: VERY well-respected, competitive public high school; requires test for admission
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Gpa: School does not assign; I have A range grades for all of 10th and 11th grades (except one subject, which will hopefully increase to an A- for second semester; is currently a B+)
Rank: School does not rank

SAT: 2210 = 680 math/730 CR/800 writing; am retaking in June and expect about a 750 in math and 770 in reading (I was sick when I took it in March)
ACT with writing: Taking in June; projection: 34-36
SAT IIs: I took USH today; probably around 720 but I might cancel the score; will take French with listening and Math 2 in the fall; expecting 800 on French 750 or higher on Math 2.

Schedule:
Sophomore: There’s a core that you cannot escape—math (algebra, geometry, and trig), French, global studies V first semester and USH second semester, English, chemistry, gym, health

Junior: Choice of two electives in addition to the inescapable core, and although it takes the spot of an elective, you must take physics either as a junior or a senior, so it isn’t optional; I took it as a junior and it took one of my elective spots. The other elective was AP French. Math, US History, English, and gym are my other classes.

Senior: You can take five or six electives as a senior; the school does not offer very many APs.

AP Calculus BC, AP Psychology, Advanced Logic and Composition, Advanced Art History, French V, AP Environmental Science (considering switching to AP Chemistry because I did well in 10th grade chemistry; might not, though)

EXTRACURRICULARS

--Fencing since September 2006, foilist from a strong location, compete nationally
--Softball since spring 2003, varsity starter all years of high school
--Volunteer helping disabled people ride horses
--Volunteer doing service in a community garden
--Key Club
--Copy editor for the school’s arts and music magazine
--Potential photo editor for yearbook next year
--Potential member of Athletic Association
--Peer French tutor
--Contributor to school’s anonymous advice column
--Former competitive swimmer; quit because I started going to school an hour away from where I live in 7th grade and there was no swim team for middle-schoolers, so I stopped for those years and never started again
--Self-study of German
--Studied Mandarin Chinese

SIDENOTES:
--Approaching fluency in French; I’ve done some sort of immersion in the summer since 2007; doing it again this year
--Silver key for Scholastic Writing Award
--Potential MVP or coach’s award recipient for softball
--Was on Jeopardy! in 2003
--Did well in spelling and geography bees when I was younger; still interested in both, but there’s no real equivalent for my age now

POSSIBLE MAJOR:
International relations, psychology, anthropology; minor in French or history

ESSAYS:
I’m a good writer; they’ll be strong, interesting, and hopefully humorous. There are a couple of schools I’d absolutely love to go to and I’ll show that in my essays.

RECS:
Also strong. I won’t ask anyone who won’t write great things.

Note: I'm applying to Stanford early action, and will be applying for financial aid everywhere (but family's income is mid-range).

Decent chances but in these times FA will hurt wherever schools are not need-blind. However, you stand a decent chance at getting into need-blind schools so good luck. Stanford is very very tough but some of your LAC choices are prudent and probably will admit you with decent aid.

Chance me back:

Wow! You were on Jeopardy? :] Sounds like a good experience.

Berkeley and San Diego are, well, difficult for out of state people. But I think you would have a good chance at San Diego, it generally is not THAT difficult to get into compared to Berkeley. Last year, around 60 people from my school went to UCSD.
As far as I know, the UCs are not super famous for your prospective majors…

Stanford is just plain difficult to get into; of the people that I know of that have gotten in, they all had really great academics, similiar to yours. But they also had something that they were really good at or really loved. Someone this year got into Stanford because she was on the national synchrnized swimming team, and someone last year was a semifianlist for the Intel Science thing, and on and on. So maybe in your extracirriculars, you should emphasize one of two things that you are really proud of; you have so many things listed under ECs, its hard to tell what you really like to do.

buuuuuump

Also, I forgot to mention that my PSAT score was 235 (80M/80W/75CR) and that I am currently a junior. Thanks for chancing, guys. And srrinath, I think most of the schools I’ll be applying to are need-blind for domestic students…Stanford, Pomona, Williams (my top 3) are, I think.

einnob, yeah my list looks a little scattered but my most intensive things are sports (fencing and softball), community service, and languages. Do you think that’s okay? None of them are really connected, but they’re all things I love. I’ll focus on mostly them on my application, and just have the rest as a list of extracurriculars :D

if you keep with fencing and softball, colleges will like you to continue them in college

u have a very good chance especially since you’re an athlete
being able to juggle academics and sports is greatly looked upon

but yea financial aid is gonna hurt but you do have extremely good stats dont worry about it too much ;)

i was on jeopardy too, 7 years ago! fun times.

Hey, I hope that it works out for you! Here’s how I rank you:

Dartmouth:Maybe/Low Reach-don’t be sick next time you take SAT!
Duke:Low Reach
UC Berkley:I think In
UCSD:In
Pomona:In/Low Reach/Decent Chance
Williams:In/Waitlist
Stanford:Reach/decent chance
McGill:In
Cal: In
Middlebury:sorry, don’t know enough about it

Can you chance me back, please?

bumppppppp

I will chance back!

I’d say pretty good chances but yeah your gpa is going to be a bit of a handicap but you have pretty good SATs!!!

probs rejected to the top ivies, maybe in Cornell/Brown, def in gtown and all the others.

? Haha, are you sure you’re on the right thread?

Very good chance at Middlebury :)
