Im applying ED1 to Lehigh
and then applying to UNC-Chapel Hill, Bucknell, Villanova, Tulane, University of Miami, Indiana University KSB, UT-Austin, Boston College, University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Georgetown, University of Delaware, Penn State, and I might apply to Rice, I know its a total reach but i just like Houston so why not
All of these seems like a good choice and you do have a good chance of getting into most of them! But retaking the SAT and getting a score of about 1250 would help you A LOT!
@JohnThomas what are you talking about his stats are like below average. You need at least a 1350 and 30 to even be considered at UT and Villanova. Your GPA is also pretty low for some of these schools. Being honest man unless you can drastically improve your SAT/ACT scores and GPA by a lot, youre not gonna have a prayer at UT, Georgia Tech, and definitely not Rice and Georgetown. Have some realistic goals. With those stats, those aren’t even in the picture. Sorry.
Pretty low shot at Tulane as well. Just a number but I’d say a 32 or 1400 at least. And few schools super score ACT. Baylor is the only one that does from our research.
I think you’re going about this a bit wrong. You are applying ED to Lehigh; a school I think you have a pretty ok chance at for applying ED. ED is supposed to be something of a reach for students (which is what Lehigh is for you), but you seem to have reversed it by applying to high reaches RD; ones that are much harder to get into that your binding ED. Try to rethink your list and apply RD to schools that are actually easier to get into than Lehigh; I think you will get better results.
UNC Chapel Hill and (to a lesser but equally holistic extent) Georgia Tech are a lot harder to get into than Lehigh as an OOS, and Georgetown and Rice are WAY harder regardless; not saying you will not get in, but it is extremely unlikely. Villanova, Bucknell, and possibly Tulane would be around as hard as Lehigh is on RD, so much harder than Lehigh ED; not saying “don’t apply,” but do keep that in mind. I think you need to reconsider your list a bit.
With a 29 ACT, you are not in the running for the top schools, but you might luck out on something on the Lehigh level if you can get it up by a few points or are very lucky (maybe not, but maybe so). As mentioned, these schools usually do not superstore. DO NOT report that SAT, though! It gives way to discrepancy, and you do not want that. Your ECs may be ok, but they are nothing really special in my opinion; sorry. Not trying to be critical or harsh or mean, but I don’t think they will benefit you much in the application process. Also, please specify your GPA, possibly on a 4.0 scale; this is because some schools do it differently and discrepancies arise like this. If your GPA is anywhere near a 3.65 (which is what I am hearing it translates to), you are below average and should try to push it up.
Try to bring that ACT to a 31+ if you can. That will put you in the running for Lehigh-level schools. Also consider some other great schools for that major, such as Washington & Lee (harder), University of Richmond, and Southern Methodist University (easier), which are all great schools and offer accounting as a major. They won’t be easy for you to get into, but they will be around or maybe a bit easier (except W&L) than Lehigh.
By the way, is cost an issue. Please specify now if it is, as that may be an important thing to think about. Hope my post helps!
My nephew had a 4.24 GPA, 1310 SAT and was rejected from Bucknell and waitlisted at Lehigh (a soft-reject as he needed financial aid).
I’ll speak to the ones I know about…Business school at UT has gotten very hard to get into just over the last few years. We had instate kids in top 10% with ACTs of 32 not get into Business School. A lot of them. And lots of kids with 30s not get in. I think Georgia is easier than UT to get into, based on talking to people, but they are still looking at 1350 and up on SAT.
I think you have a decent shot at Lehigh ED. But don’t submit the SAT. Use the ACT. For Villanova, are you planning on applying to the business school? You would have a much better chance if you apply there for arts and sciences. Same goes for BC. G’town is a major reach and you will need 3 subject tests. Rice is also a big reach. I don’t think Bucknell or Tulane are out of the question. Kids from my school have gotten in with a 30 score.
