I’m an international student and I recently submitted my application for the fall transfer regular decision (film production major) this year, and I’m a little nervous about my application. I started developing an interest in film towards the end of high school and I’ve just completed my first year of college, so I haven’t had much to add to my portfolio although I know it’s optional. Could someone maybe estimate my chances of getting admitted? Here is my basic information:
CGPA: 3.8 on a 4.0 scale, unweighted
IELTS: 8.5 on a maximum band of 9.0
Achievements and Extracurricular Activities:
- Academic Honors (Magna Cum Laude on the Dean’s List)
- Did Model UN for almost 4 years, was part of two organizing secretariats as Under Secretary General of Photography and Co-chair for one
- Organized University Life Course group field trip
- Volunteer photographer at 24 Hour Race where participants raise money to stop human trafficking through donations from NGOs
Work Experience:
- Did a temporary unpaid internship at a job-hunting company
Submitted two letters of academic recommendation from two lecturers
Chose #2 for the Common App essay
As for my portfolio, I chose to submit four photography samples (the maximum number allowed), a one-page professional resume, and a one-minute video which isn’t exactly a film but more of a B-roll of sorts of footage from Pier 60 in Sarasota, Florida (maximum duration is 3 minutes). I was thinking of adding a screenplay I wrote but I’m not sure if that counts as a form of writing composition.
Hopefully that would be enough for someone to determine how strong my application is
