CHANCE ME PLEASE

I don’t know enough about the UCs to really comment. As for the rest, you’re in good shape, but they’re tough schools to get into, so it’s a crapshoot. I’d say that UMich is a match, and the rest are reaches.

UMich loves the IB. Its acceptance rate for IB students is extremely high. (The number itself is deceiving, though, as a large chunk of that high IB student acceptance rate comes from one in-state IB school.)

You’ll be a competitive applicant, but no guarantees.

Aren’t you missing an HL ;)?

Your grades, and scores look to be competitive at each of these schools. It’s a nice set of ECs, which shouldn’t hold you back.

Which leaves recommendations and your essays.

Keep in mind that most of your list has very low admissions rates, even for competitive.
applicants.

I think Harvard is going to be SCEA. This is brand new for 2011-12, so check to make sure that this won’t limit your ability to apply ED or EA to your other schools.

Good luck

UC’s should definitely be a match, since ur a in-state applicant as well. IDK about the rest though.

Thanks for your feedback, guys!

@RedSeven: what do you mean by “reach”? sorry im not too familar with College conf. shorthand haha

@zephyr15: do you think i’d have a good chance of getting into at least a few?

I’d really really love to go to MIT or Princeton haha =)

Nice, I got similar olympiad results except with physics instead of chem, although, if I understand correctly, are you saying that you qualified for one of the ~ 5 (or 6?) national chemistry olympiad spots? If so I think this would be a very significant advantage over many other applicants and would put you in a great position. Of course, like the others have already stated, worry about your essays and recs coming up now. I’d say you’re def a match for Umich, UC Berkeley, UCLA and possibly northwestern (underinformed about that school). This is of course, my own very humble opinion. Would you mind http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1183511-chance-me.html

Harvard is going to be single-choice early action, so you won’t be able to apply to any of the other schools early.

tom

I think you have as good a chance at any of these schools as anyone. However, though your stats are truly fantastic (or else you wouldn’t really have a chance), for schools like HYPSM they’re not truly exceptional. These schools have <10% acceptance rates, and unfortunately reject many stellar candidates. It’s really a numbers game, and impossible to predict how many of these you’ll get into (sorry). On the other hand, if your application sizzles, it’s possible you’d get into many of them.

I believe most people applying to schools at this level apply to about 10 (maybe a few more) schools total, with at least one true safety, and one ‘near’ safety.

With your numbers Michigan is the only ‘near’ safety see (though some on the Michigan Board might disagree with this assessment). Possibly the UCs, but honestly, I know nothing about those.

With those numbers, you’re in at Cal and UCLA, especially since you’re in-state. The Ivy Leagues are a crapshoot for anybody. :P

Which year did you make Panel Finals? Maybe you played in the same Honors Recital as I did…

Trust me, an in-state applicant with those stats is almost guarenteed admission to all UC’s. I would say all UC’s are safeties.

@zephyr15: What do you think about my extracurriculars? Are my SAT scores and stuff the only things that are “saving” my chances?

@hopeful: nah. i just made the national round (top 1000?)

bump! 10char
