Just wanted to know what my chances look like.
I applied early decision.
I am a girl and I applied to McCormick, for engineering(electrical)
I have a legacy(mom)
31 ACT (34 math, 34 English, 28 reading, 27 science but a 30 on a previous test date)
SAT II: 760 math 2 730 physics
GPA: 4.0 unweighted (at a rigorous public high school that offers all honors AP and IB courses) 4.64 weighted (honors and AP/IB count as one extra point)
Completed AP courses: NSL(4) statistics (5) English language and composition(4) spanish 6(5)
Current AP courses: Spanish 7, Physics C, BC calculus, psychology, English literature
I am white and from an upperclass home. We donate to NU, because my mom attended, but no more that a couple hundred dollars a year. I'm also fluent in Spanish, I completed a full spanish immersion program.
EC: varsity tennis, mock trial, work(lifeguard), tutor, internship at a federal court.

Low reach.

ACT score is slightly below average, but your GPA is very competitive. Do you have any ECs that relate to your intended major? Those could help round out your application. It doesn’t hurt that you’re a legacy either, so I think you have a fairly good chance of receiving an acceptance letter Best of luck!

Low reach/high match

But I disagree on reason: Simply due to competitiveness. Your GPA obviously indicates that you can do intense works. So, low ACT may be compensated with it. Plus you have a legacy and applying for engineering, which gives some significant boost.

@paul2752 I’m a little confused on to what you disagree with.

yeah i just realized that part is weird but yeah, gpa may be able to cover her act

I’m going to say NU is a low reach because the ACT’s on the lower end of the middle 50%, but your GPA is good and the legacy could help a bit too. ECs except for the last look generic, but I don’t see anything related to your major (though it’s a bit late now - oh well). Fluency in Spanish will likely give a boost. If you’ll be full pay (which not many people are) then that would probably help, but I’m not sure how much.

Overall, I doubt you’ll be rejected outright, so my guess is deferred and accepted/maybe waitlisted RD, though ED means you might get an acceptance letter this round too. Good luck (and chance back if you want)! :)

Low reach. Decent test scores (Low ACT but better SAT II). Good GPA. Decent hooks with legacy. Pretty lame ECs.
