Colleges I’m considering (Match/reach/safety?)

 • NYU (CAS) - art history major (THIS IS MY ONE AND ONLY WISH)
 • BU, BC
 • wellesley, barnard, smith
 • UCSD, UCI, UCSB, UCSC (and prolly LA for their insanity over selecting some very dumb kids in our school.)
 • Cornell (over the reach school, i know. but since ive been setting my whole entire summer goals for this school, id rather get a rejection letter and let it go)
 • babson, and searching more for my super reach and safty school

THINGS TO PUT INTO YOUR CONSIDERATION BEFORE BEING HONEST :)

so i moved here to cali when i finished my middle school in korea, strictly was educated in korean way without attending such international school starting from kindergarten. my first year was very rough and did not have a good gpa.

then as a sophomore, i did pretty good in regular classes getting mostly As (showing improvement, actually, WAS showing) then i got into all the APs and Honors in junior which totally screwed me over like no other.

my ultimate goal is to actually go to STERN. how crazy is it to even put an application there concerning my gpa and sat. soooo, for cas, i am trying to use a back door by going there get heck of a good gpa and transfer like a miracle. thats my dream.

QUESTIONS

do you think it is a right choice for me to apply ED to NYU’s CAS? im extremely worried about this since it has become competitive even in ED pool over the year.

my friend apparently wrote as a supplementary document explaining how she wants to participate in study abroad, AKA GSP. well, for me i really want to go to NYC, the original campus. but writing such essay explaining that id rather be glad to go to GSP than to be rejected would this help me to get in? (honestly, i heard GSP is getting somethings like “generally stupid plan” stuff from the students in the orig campus)

and in case that the admission officers decide to put me in an orig campus (insanittyyy if i get in!) and see my GSP wish list, would they rather put me in GSP?

How do I appeal in my application that i started to learn english from 4 years ago and i really did not grow up like most of the kids speaking english who are applying? (just how to differentiate on the application besides essay, because ‘oh i came to america’ is not that great of a topic. since i also bet that they have read ton of this kind)

my most important outside of school EC has been hotel. since i was in 9th grade, ive been shooting for any hotel management major so i interned and got a job there and everything. so, the fact that i didnt do anything academic over the summer, would it hurt my app? (so not a study person but a people person, cant help it =/ oh and this is also why im doing something totally insane, like applying cornell hotel ad. ahah )

I got 2 C’s in my application from H. Pre calculus class, which definitely kills the transcript. but i am very very close with my math teacher, since he had me for three years and im getting a rec from him. would this mediate the admission officer;s eyes since im getting an excellent rec from the teacher i had a killer grade? (i am born with a bad math gene. he knows that i tried so hard so i wouldnt really worry about the rec since i showed him i tried my best and still got two Cs)

GALLATIN SCHOOL! if i can be a course architect, then i would so go to gallatin and take art history plus some business schools possible. but i really dont have any idea of applying here and how to appeal amazingly to them.

could you tell me how hard is it to get into Gallatin and what does it take to to get there? sorry the question is kinda vague

ALRIGHT thats it so far, thank you guys whoever made it to all the way down here. i would greatly appreciate you guys’ time and effort to read such bad english and ill try to repay you in anyway possible if i get a very honest and realistic feed back :)

thank you!

NYU Stern really isn't so much more difficult to get into than NYU--Gallatin. So, you might consider applying directly to Stern if that's really where you want to go.

NYU (Stern)--Slight Reach
NYU (CAS) - art history major--Match
Boston University--Match
Boston College--Slight Reach
Wellesley--Reach
Smith--Match to Slight Reach
UCLA--Slight Reach
UCSD--Match to Slight Reach
UCI/UCSB--Match
UCSC--Safe Match
Cornell--Slight Reach
Babson--Safe Match
Penn (Wharton)--super reach
(Penn State or Ohio State for business school)--other matches
Oregon/Washington--safety school

oh my thank you so much for your fast response! i really appreciate it! :D
haha now im getting a little too excitedd

Hey. I am also Korean and reside in nyc. My brother actually goes to NYU and is studying abroad in London right now. Well I think you do have a chance, actually a better one than I do, but my suggestion is to go into a instate school first. This is only because you have a better shot at an instate school rather than out-of-state schools, especially like a private school such as NYU. But still apply anyways. Best way to get into NYU? Transfer. My brother got in with a 1120(I think) on the old SATs. He did have a top 5% rank and a fantastic gpa but still I think he had a much better chance when he applied as a transfer student rather than freshmen admission. I hope my advice helps you. By the way dont ever doubt yourself. I mean, who knows whats going to happen in the future? Might as well try and gamble a little!. Good Luck

God Bless,
Peter

hey peter!
hahah i actually dont like california that much soo thats why im being almost obsessive over east coast. i just love the seoul-like atmosphere, which i found the resemblence in NYC haaha but thanks for all the words :)
