Please Chance Me!! - Penn, UMich, USC, UC Berkeley, NYU, UTexas, UNC, UVA

I am a current junior at a small, highly ranked public high school in Massachusetts. I want to apply ED to Penn Wharton (I know my chances aren’t great). PLEASE chance me for UMich (Ross), USC (Marshall), UC Berkeley (Haas), NYU (Stern), UTexas Austin (McCombs), UNC (Kenan-Flagler ), UVA (McIntire)
*NOTE: AP classes are not offered (besides AP comp sci) until junior year at my school
I am an african american female.
Also, I am hearing back from National Honor Society soon about whether I got in or not. If I don’t get in I will reapply in the fall. I am planning on interning at one or two startup companies this summer to learn more about their marketing and business management because my end goal is entrepreneurship

Freshman year:
honors physics: B-
honors geometry: B
honors world history: A-
english 9: A
spanish intermediate 1: A-
chorus
TV studio
EC: member of black student union, ballet, leader of church dance ministry, spring musical, 2 month exchange program to Brazil over the summer, 25(ish) hrs community service

Sophomore year:
honors bio: B
honors algebra 2: B
honors english: A
world history: A-
spanish intermediate 2: A

EC: varsity track 2 seasons (rookie of the year award for indoor, made it to nationals for 4x1 in outdoor), secretary of black student union, helped to plan a domestic violence conference at church, out of school summer track club, summer job as dance teacher, summer camp counselor, 36 hrs community service

Junior year (as of the end of first semester):
honors precalc: B+
AP stat: B
chem: A
honors english: A
AP US history: B
honors spanish intermediate: B+
chorus
EC: varsity track 2 seasons, secretary of black student union, student ambassadors club, going on a missions trip to Cuba over the summer

Planned courses for senior year:
AP calc AB
AP bio
AP comp sci
AP english
social science (history course)
AP spanish language
concert choir (audition group)
EC: varsity track 2 seasons, probably president of black student union, thinking about running for student council, community service hours

As of the end of first semester junior year, my weighted GPA is 3.9 (my school doesn’t send unweighted GPA)

I am confident that my essay and teacher recs will be very strong (one rec is from my AP stat teacher who will have been my track coach for 3 years)
I got a 31 on the ACT which I will probably retake (depending on my SAT score) because my math subscore wasn’t that great (28)
I got a 203 on the PSAT with no studying, so I should be able to raise my SAT into the 2100-2200 range.

ALSO, if you could suggest some safety schools with good/decent business programs, that would be awesome!

Thanks in advance!

Your UM uwGPA would be 3.5 (half A and half B) which would be too low for admission. Your current ACT score and PSAT projected SAT scores are also below UMich’s admission average. Try to bring up your GPA and test score as much as you can.

One major problem with your application is that your grades/scores in math are quite low. A lot of top business schools, especially Wharton, focus on math grades as they are contingent on your success as a business major. Really focus on bringing up your ACT math component.

Also, you should look at Pitt.

UPenn is a big stretch, but Stern, Umich, Utexas, Unc and Usc are definitely all matches/low reaches. All of those schools are very selective but I think you have agreat shot at them (provided you raise your ACT up a little). I have a similar courseload, GPA and test scores to you, and I am applying to Stern early decision. Good luck! Give me a chance if you want also

You don’t apply to Kenan Flagler until after your sophomore year at UNC

Your grades and schedule rigor are underwhelming for these schools. Nail the SAT. Penn is a big reach, and the others are probably low reaches or high matches if you’re lucky. Make sure your essays are good.

Most you have a chance but not a great one
OSU and UMD are decent safeties/low matches

@Nflpackers96‌ in regards to my course rigor, I have taken every honors and AP class that I could have taken so far in my school besides honors chem and AP world history, if that has any impact (also part of the reason why i’m taking 5 AP’s next year)

If you’ve taken the hardest schedule available, then no worries. You can’t take classes that your school doesn’t have.

As others have said, work on improving that ACT score and some of those grades. Every year is different but my older son is a sophomore now but in HS his ACT was higher than yours and he was straight A’s for junior and senior year. EC was similar. He got into Michigan, NYU and UVA but got rejected at Penn. Also, keep in mind that some of those schools don’t admit you directly to the business school like Michigan you apply after your freshman year and UVA after your sophomore year. Yet NYU admit you directly into their business school.

FYI. Ross pre-admission has an admission rate of 14% or less. It is no match for anyone and it would be a high reach for OP due to weak GPA.
