Okay before I start I'm not trying to boast or get the old "your a perfect candidate" Sometimes I think I'm fine then I think of these school's acceptance rates and how many kids will have perfect applications.
SSAT scores
94 reading
96 verbal
99 math
98 overall
My essay's should be very good(I've been working on them for the last week and am working on them now).
My recommendations are good.
My interview's should go fine. I hope:)

Ec's
I am in 9th grade and play hockey goalie on my high school's varsity team.(It's NH Div 1 so its pretty good).
I've taken drama for four years
I take French(although I'm bad at it), and will be taking Russian soon.
I've done community service in the past.

HERE'S THE CATCH
I dropped out from my high school to be home schooled right near or at the end of the first quarter. I was doing pretty badly(B's with one C and one A). Although I was in an honors class. I don't even know if I have a transcript seeing as I may have dropped out just before the end of the quarter(crossing my fingers I don't).
Last year's transcript was better with a couple B's and a couple A's.
However, the year before that was terrible. I moved just before the final exams so I'm guessing my grades are awful(I don't even think I've looked at them or know where they are).
I think at some schools they only make you send you most recent year so that is good.

I know that this might seem harsh, but there is a huge chance that you might not get accepted. Exeter is one of the top schools in the country, if not the world. Your SSAT's are excellant, but I do not know if they will make up for your mediocre grades. Are you applying to any other schools? 'Safety' schools?

I wish you luck, but your probabley going to need alot of it.

Have you contacted the hockey coach at these schools? Prep school hockey is highly competitive and most players are recruited. Don't plan on making the team if you just show up. Even if you have an awesome tryout, the coach likely already knows who his players will be, especially goaltender. You will likely play JV and may never move up to varsity, depending on your skill level and the players that are already on varsity. Hockey at prep schools is cut throat.

In addition, your academic record will probably keep your out of Exeter, Groton, and St. Pauls. Exeter requires that you send high school and middle school academic records and the other schools are probably the same. The academics at these schools is grueling and they won't accept someone who looks like they are having difficulty.

Yeah I've talked to the hockey coaches. I also have coaches that have connections with them. On the academic side whenever I had good teachers I did very well. Luckily for me my Math and English teachers from last year were good. I don't know if the teacher recommendations will help to erase my mediocre transcripts.

I do not know much about your situation BUT:
As long as it doesn't look like your school is bloated with grade inflation the only person who can honestly asses your skills in each respective class is the teacher. If you have bad grades but stellar recs the admissions office may take it as:
-Difficult course, few people get top grade
-You slacked off a bit
-Both
"Both" is the most likely path of thought. Really slam your interview and everything else. Also look at some of the less "represented" members of the 10 schools; these are extremely competitive schools but some may have slightly lower standards (ie. Ex/And may be harder to get into than Hill). As it is late to start a fresh application for a new school (it can be done if you really work hard) try looking for one such with a Feb. 1 deadline...

I really do not know much about the process but a few Bs maybe fine, especially if you are ahead and taking rigorous classes, but a C is usually unacceptable. Reason being that when you are below that threshold they may think you are over your head.

Anyway I am blind leading blind. Do not quote me for anything, this is just what I think.

Same situation as you! (98% overall)
And my recs were really good
But my grades hevn't been super great in the past...
I think I did well on my interviews as well (except at St. Paul's. It was my first interview and I was really nervous). My favorite was Exeter, and that was the interview that I think I did the best on.
Applied to:
St. Paul's
Exeter
Groton
Middlesex

OH MY GOD!! I agree with you Ring. I made a post about it too. It is really bothering me... These are supposed to be confidential but I guess the honor code doesn't fly anywhere these days.

I was thinking that also... I KNOW that my English rec. was really good, because my teachers told me. I'm guessing my other ones were also nice, because I like those teachers a lot, and they like me... but how does anybody KNOW?

I did see some, because we mailed them (my school actually wwouldn't! weird, huh?). The other ones are from teachers that I love. They love me (or they're at least really nice to me and totally awesome). I just assume that the ones I didn't see (from my old school, the ones that really matter. I just moved) are good because they're from my fave teachers. I was kind of a teachers' pet at my old school.

Wait... So you get the privilege to mail it yourself and you open it or something? The teacher GIVES it to you in a SEALED envelope, hence insuring integrity... Whatever...

In any case, my current teachers checked out "no basis for judgement" and wrote things similar to that, as I had only been at my school for a little over a month when I got my recs. My old school (one that was far better and that I attended for much longer) mailed the application.

I just received my ssat scores and I am not satisfied with the results. However, I have no choice but to send it to the schools i'm applying for since its pretty late. I really don't know if I can get accepted to the schools I want.

My scores are: Math 710, Verbal 716, Reading 596,

The schools im applying to are: Mercersburg academy, loomis chaffee, cheshire academy, culver academies, valley forge military academy, and peddie school.

Can someone tell me if these scores are sufficient enough?
