The only interviews I've had so far are Georgetown and Wellesley.. and they were both really great. Gtown woman had great impression and I really hit it off with the Wellesley alum.

I know you've probably seen my chance threads plastered along cc on each schools site on here.. but, believe it or not, I've just discovered this "what are my chances section" that would have been easier in the first place. thanks in advance to all who respond to this :)

NOTE: I'm hella nervous because some people on here have basically been saying "hey wake up.. the only schools you might have a chance at are ub and northeastern" and of course this kind of stabs me a little. I mean, I love to hear the truth/the reality but if anyone has any positive insight that would be amazing too.

why are you applying to 16 schools and you don't think you applied to enough safeties?

because I joined cc only after i applied to all these places. and many ccers made me aware that my list is a huge mistake. I'm worried now because deadlines have past and there isn't much I can do about it.. but get somewhat different feedback or maybe an ounce of re-assurance :/

i think you stand a chance. you will get into at least one probably.

have you really traveled to 35 countries?

janemac- 1/16? wow thanks for the boost, really lifted my spirits lol
and yes i have

sorry, you have many, many great ec's and your urm will boost your chances. your scores are far below average for some of these schools, but hey your overall application looks pretty strong. Good luck.

what's "urm"? and thanks for the input :)

anyone else out there?

well you did ask if you had enough safeties. which means that you're scared you won't get into any of them. after all you can only attend one college, so getting into 1/16 is enough. and how is being israeli a URM?

true, but i really truly want to attend barnard, brown, risd, or wellesley. those are my top. i've worked really hard through high school.. sure there were bumps in the road.. i had cancer, and then my dad got sick, but i think i managed to pull through somehow. now, im really worried about not getting into barnard, brown, risd, or wellesley.

eskimo208, URM is under-represented minority i.e. Black or Latino. (you're not a URM.)

anyways the thing that will probably prevent you from getting into a lot of these schools is that by looking at your grades and test scores, you're not qualified to get into a majority of these schools. in order for those impressive ECs to even matter you have to atleast be qualified. also, are you sure your UW GPA is a 3.3?

EDIT:
also how did you do first semester of senior year. if you are taking difficult classes and get really good grades that can overshadow some of your past performances.

and did u emphasize your struggles, cuz those can also help explain some of your past performance

[edit] did you know know that having a dual citizenship is illegal ;) haha it's okay tho, i have a dual citizenship too (taiwan and US)

Berkeley and UCLA are reaches; since you're OOS and your GPA isn't up to par, it's going to be very difficult. Other than that, though, your application is strong. Good luck.

Newjack88- I'm pretty sure my uw gpa is a 3.3, why? I'm wondering if colleges see both the uw and weighted gpa. First semester senior year- all my 8 classes (minus government) are AP and IB.. I did alright, a couple B's though.

Narcissa- I didn't really emphasize them.. I didn't want to sound like I was flaunting or making excuses or anything but I did subtly mention the cancer and my dads sickness in my essay. Oh and I had no idea it was illegal :O

thanks for your input guys, much appreciated. anyone else?

I would definitely recommend playing up those kind of struggles. I don't think it comes across as playing up excuses as much as of doing yourself justice. A big part of the basis of having URMs is bringing diversity of opinion and experience and of recognizing that some people have to work harder to get into the top places, and I think that sort of struggle definitely counts in its own way. Anyways, I wrote my common app essay, along with a note in the "outside info" section, about having cancer, talked about it in my interviews at Smith, Wellesley, Mt Holyoke and Wesleyan and, as recommended by a guidance/college counselor, got my oncologist to send a letter also. The interviewers definitely seemed impressed and I got into Wellesley ED, despite having a UW GPA that was less than the Wellesley average. I would honestly recommend sending a side note to the admissions staff of the schools that you're applying to re-emphasizing the struggles you've dealt with and every way they've impacted your academic performance and getting a letter from your doctor (I'm assuming oncologist) as well.

Umm... Narcissa dual citizenship is definitely not illegal. Different countries have various policies, but in the US it is absolutely fine as long as the other country is. Look at this link for more information: Dual Citizenship FAQ

If Huckabee gets his way it will be illegal, but we're safe for now!
