your gpa and test scores will hurt you a little, but you have great ec's and you'll prob get into a good amount of the schools you're applying to, or at least i hope (im applying to alot of the same ones)
sorry im not really insightful but w/e

BC will be a definite reach because BC plays the numbers game with over 30k apps

Renaissance Girl: You have Amazing EC's and Leadership and you go to a top-ranked high school, however you will likely be deferred because of your grades/rank/test scores, but those EC's and your rec's could tip the hand in your favor, good luck!

Dear eskimo208 : Let's start with your standardized test scores. As you have seen hopefully on other chance-me threads, the midpoint for BC's acceptance pool is about 1350 on the two way SAT. The 25th percentile is currently 1240 according to the college board statistics. Speaking in real terms, you are probably about the 15th percentile. Regardless of the school's ranking, your GPA of 3.3 and placement in about the top third are significantly below the mark. Receiving an International Baccalaureate diploma (as opposed to a certificate) will bolster your case, but we cannot tell if your are scoring 4s, 5s, 6s, or 7s.

Your profile does not show any sports background or any team oriented sports. Similarly, you do not show any music background although you do demonstrate experience in the arts.

Your entrepreneurial background is extremely strong at this age and in that, you should clearly take pride. That said, your resume is very stilted in that direction - it is difficult to extrapolate team aspects in your work. Your extensive travel is interesting when you eventually get to interning or your first job - hopefully you are considering an international organization. At the freshman level, your travel reads bit like "my family took me across the globe". Many would rather see someone who pursued a passion rather than gathering stats like 35 countries and 5 continents.

So, where does that leave us? The uniqueness of your resume will have to be appealing to one of the top schools as your numbers are not there. Boston College, Georgetown, and Wellesley will likely be rejections/deferrals. Brown University will value the international aspects of your application and I would suspect a better chance of acceptance there. Barnard seems to be a reach at this point. By all means, please let us know how it turns out. Yours is the type of unusual background from which we can all learn for college placements.

"At the freshman level, your travel reads bit like "my family took me across the globe". Many would rather see someone who pursued a passion rather than gathering stats like 35 countries and 5 continents."

I pursued the passion of the business I started and I used the traveling as an inspiration (essays). It inspired me to start a business based on international culture. I took advantage of the traveling basically. And, yess for sure, I will let everyone know how it turns out. I'm worried beyond belief lol.. ahhhh. I guess that's what this whole college process does to you :P

anyone else out there?

I don't know much about BC, but I do know that they reject kids for the smallest imperfections in their application- mediocre SATs/GPA isn't going to help. The lack of sports/music definately hurts. Don't sweat it though, you'll get into a lot of the schools on your list! You have a strong chance for NYU based on you ecs and background, and I would say Barnard is a match.

i'd say a reach, unless you're wrong about your class rank and meant to write 660 rather than 560 for your SAT critical reading. However, I really hope your passion for fashion and your leadership in ec's can get you in. I'd recommend sending in an extra list of your activities b/c the common app only allows for about 7 or so. Swarthmore, Wellesley, Brown, and G'town seem out of the question, but i think you have a definite chance at some of the others. Good Luck!

ahhhcollege- for lack of sports/music i think i made up for that with my involvement in the arts i could only hope they see that though :/ and i justtt now realized that i forgot to include that fact that I've played piano for 7 years.. do you think that would have made any of a difference/ added a little more?

mdebater- thanks! yeah i sent a resume... hope that helps

anyone else?

Eskimo208 - it will probably not be an easy task of being accepted to BC, as many others have stated based on your stats. Btw, did you really need to apply to like 15 schools? I never understood the logic of my fellow peers applying to so many schools, many of which they know nothing or very little about and have no passion for....

Eskimo - You definately made up for it in music and arts, and the good majority of schools will recognize and like that, but from my experience with Boston College, they're more likely to accept a football player than an artsy kid. They're kind of jerks like that :(
