please chance me...there's a shocker

Hey everyone!!!
I will be a junior this fall (wow time flies).
So am I on track for Yale, Cornell, Brown, Amherst, Dartmouth, and other top schools?

Academics
Freshman year:
GPA:
Weighted: 4.367
Unweighted: 4.0
Class Rank: 23/329
Took all honors classes and one "seminar" class. Seminars are between honors and AP in our school. However, no APs are avaliable for freshman year or sophomore years.

Sophomore year:
GPA:
Weighted: 4.419
Unweighted: 3.71 (yes I know...)
Class Rank: 23/ 330
Took all seminars, which is a rigorous schedule in my school. No AP's offered

Extracurriculars
I've concentrated my ECs on 3 things: writing, theater/public speaking and community service

*Writing: *
1) School literary magazine
2)School newspaper

Theater/ public speaking
1)performed in three plays so far at my school
2)International Thespian Society
3)Speech and debate
4)I am planning to join mock trial in 11th.

Community Service
1) secretary of SADD
2)school's community service club
3) Key Club: Vice President
4)Outside of school, I volunteer at a therapeutic place with horses and children.

I'm also part of The National Spanish Honors Society. I did marching band for one year but I don't plan to do it again. I can play the violin, and have been playing for 7 years, but I'm not that amazing at it. I'm also learning how to play the ukulele!

So how am I doing? I know I need a hook and something that stands out, but I don't know what might happen during junior year!

Thanks :)

I suggest that you don’t try to chance before your junior year. My junior year was the worst year, and caused a drastic change in the colleges I will be applying to this fall. Wait until next year.

Do you know what your junior schedule is?

By the way, you can’t really obtain a hook. Hooks are things like legacy, URM, and athletic recruitment.

My Junior Academic Schedule:
AP English
AP U.S History
Seminar Pre Calc
Seminar Chemistry
Honors Spanish 5

Not bad. Of course, it’s very hard to chance without SAT scores, but you seem to be headed in the right direction.

Why do you only have 5 classes?

I also have two electives, orchestra and understanding law. But we have 7 classes in a day, not including lunch, 5 academic and 2 electives.

Ah, I see. Orchestra should definitely help. Not enough kids are into music.

Again, I can’t give any solid advice because you lack test scores, but come back after you’ve taken the SAT or ACT; we can really begin to help you at that point.

I understand about the SATs, but thanks :)

bumpp bumpp
