Hello !! I’m currently a senior resided in California. I applied to all the UCs except for UC Merced. I also applied to Cal Poly Slo, Pomona, SJSU, and CSULB. I don’t have an outstanding GPA such as a 4.6. But I believe I have an interest background that makes me a little unique? I guess. Thank you ahead of time for chancing me.

So… I feel like when I say this, College Confidential users who go to my school will automatically know who I am. But whatever.
Anyways, I’m a proffesional fisherwoman. Yes. You read that correctly. There is such a thing. I’ve been fishing ever since I could walk. Lake fishing, river fishing, ocean fishing, you name it! Ever since I was 8 years old, I’ve helped my dad run his fishing chartering business and worked as a deck hand for him. I make his lures for his tackle business.
I don’t know if this makes me unique or what not. But I think it’s pretty different for a girl to say she’s a fisherwoman.
In my UC PIQ response, I talked about how as a fisherwomen, I’m going against the gender norms. “Fishing is known to be a men’s activity, but not to me.” I talked about how fishing has impacted my life and me as a person. I talked about how I gained so many business skills after shadowing my dad. I stated that fishing is what makes me different and unique. You get the basic gist.
