Please chance me for:

Cornell - College of Arts and Sciences (Early Decision)
University of Michigan - College of Literature, Science, and the Arts
Johns Hopkins - Krieger School of Arts and Sciences
UPenn - College of Arts and Science
NYU - College of Arts and Science
Duke - Trinity College of Arts and Sciences
Northwestern - Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences

I plan on having a political science major

Thank you so much for your input!!

Competitive applicant for all of them. You’ll most likely get in NYU at UMich Ann Arbor.

As long as you write amazing essays and have outstanding teacher recommendations, it is likely that you will be accepted into Cornell ED, although applying to CAS makes it considerably more competitive.

Thank you for your input guys! Much appreciated. Could someone tell me what my status is in terms of being admitted into each of the universities (reach, match, etc)?

Instead of UPenn, which I think is a little beyond my reach, I’ve decided to supplant that university with UC Berkeley.

It is always high to chance international but you do have great credential. However, isn’t 92% converted into ~3.7 instead of 4.0 in uw GPA?

Assuming you are 4.0:

Cornell ED: high match
University of Michigan LSA: low match
Johns Hopkins: high match to low reach
UPenn: Low reach
NYU: High match to low reach
Duke: High match to low reach
Northwestern: High match to low reach
UCB: Match

If it is 3.7, then you need to lower the chance of each school by ~2 levels.

Yes, I assume that’s correct. In Canada, we don’t use the GPA system. I was just converting my 92% cumulative average to a GPA using a regular scale for Americans since that it was they use. However, I do have many AP courses which I believe will bring my “GPA” to a 4.0 wGPA. Also, what do you mean by levels?

Is NYU really a high match to low reach for me??

Bumpchar10

Cornell - really low reach, almost high match
Mich - match
JHU - high match
Penn - low - mid reach
NYU - safety
Duke - low - mid reach
Berkeley - match
Northwestern - high match

Here’s mine. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1525734-chance-me-umiami-any-merit-aid-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

I believe all of your college choices are a match, but need to maintain your GPA and write a good app essay(s). Also, your teach recomendations need to be good to because thats what goves colleges there insight about how well you preform in classes.

Bumpbumpbumpbump

Looks like your in good shape especially for NYU. I would make sure you take as many AP’s as possible and focus on grades and you’ll be a strong applicant to the others as well! Chance back please!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1528628-chance-me-brown.html</a></p>

You really look very solid for all of those schools, although a few I would consider low reaches. Very good scores by the way.

Cornell - Match
University of Michigan - low match/safetie
Johns Hopkins - Match/low reach
UPenn - low reach
NYU - High match
Duke - Honestly no idea
Northwestern - low reach

Chance back please
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1528012-chance-me-top-schools-good-scores-okay-ec.html</a></p>

You are a very competitive applicant for all these schools; your GPA (assuming 4.0), excellent SAT and SAT II and esp having longevity and leadership positions in a variety of ECs in school and in the community will ensure that your application is carefully considered at all the universities you have chosen. At this point you should focus on essays and recommendations and shaping your application so that the Adcoms can really see your strengths. I’m sure you know that no one on CC can give you anything like an accurate assessment of your chances at these schools. The holistic admissions process means that actually no one who is not reading your application at a particular school can actually do that. If you have a Naviance account the tools there will give you a much more accurate picture of your chances. What you might want to do for your own sake now, is continue to research ( and of course visit and interview where possible) your list with an eye to what unique aspect of each school really appeals to you - the issue of “fit”. This will help steer you as options become available and also help you with supplements and the important “Why college X” question. MIT has a fantastic admissions blog that can help insert some sanity and reality into the process ( even if you are not interested in MIT ). I don’t presume to do the granular reach/match thing but I wanted to repsond to this post to tell you you are not overshooting at all - if anything the opposite. If there’s a dream school not on your list, go ahead and add it :)

Re: NYU you are above their 75% for SAT scores an your GPA is .5 above as well so statistically this is not a reach school for you at all. NYU admissions recently went from 40% to 33% which could be genuine or could be an engineered number for rankings. It is the lowest ranked school on your list and you can probably feel optimistic about your chances there.
The Canadian piece is something you can portray as a diversity feature (at all your schools).

I’m a Cornell alum, undergrad and grad school. In fact my whole family went to Cornell or teaches there. You should apply early if Cornell is really your first choice. There are brilliant professors and lots of research opportunities. The poli sci dept has some venerable profs who are also wonderful teachers as I’m sure you know, and is a very tight knit dept. The university overall has become increasingly corporate and really just…huge…sometimes an unwieldy experience for students without a strong advising system in place…but you have chosen many large schools so size may be a plus for you. And the frigid winters in Ithaca won’t take you by surprise  But keep your other schools on the table until you are sure about Cornell ED. UC Berkeley is a great choice for poli sci as would be UCLA, Georgetown, George Washington…

really nice SAT and GPA, your EC are good too and leadership role will make ustand out to admissions committees as well. That being said I would chance u as follows:
Cornell - College of Arts and Sciences (Early Decision) match/low reach
University of Michigan - College of Literature, Science, and the Arts match
Johns Hopkins - Krieger School of Arts and Sciences match
UPenn - College of Arts and Science low reach (apply Ed if u decide over Cornell)
NYU - College of Arts and Science match
Duke - Trinity College of Arts and Sciences match
Northwestern - Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences match

chance back!?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1527194-brandeis-chance-will-apply-ed-chance-back.html</a></p>

Thank you guys so much! I really appreciate the input!! I was wondering as I am an international applicant, how many U.S schools I should apply to? Since I’m from Canada, I will apply to a few schools here, but I really am aiming for an American one. Do you think I have the right amount of schools, should I add some more?

Also, I’ve decided not to apply to UPenn, as it seems to far of a reach for me, and NYU. Instead, I will apply to UC Berkeley. I’d also like to point out that I’ll be applying EA to University of Michigan, as it is my second choice school (will that help at all?)
