Hi! My stats are:
GPA:3.6/4(unweighted)
ACT: 30(36 M 30S 28E 25R)
SAT subject tests: 800 Math lvl 2 800 Physics 790 Chemistry
Achievements:
SILVER Medal in international physics Olympiad
Overall winner of national physics olympiad
And few other math/ science achievements

So, what are my chances in:
1. MIT
2.CALTech
3. U Chicago
4. University of Washington in St. Louis
5. Georgetown university.

And what do you think are my safeties with these stats.

Your ECs are really limited in scope, so unless you have major other awards in math and science, you chances aren’t incredibly high for MIT, considering your ACT is a 30. I think you have a shot at Washu. Just a thought.

Those SAT II’s are ridiculous… you must be an asian kid
But yeah, other than that and your olympiads, nothing is quality enough for those schools. I would say that alone could get you into Washington and Georgetown, but the rest won’t accept unless someone has tried to expand themselves in all areas, not just the SAT II :).
Chance back?

@elle413: Next ACT test is in February, and that will be too late for me to submit the scores. So, I don’t think it is possible for me to write ACT test again.:(

Your chances seem decent enough, but MIT will be a bit tougher to get in to. That medal will do you wonders though. Congrats!
Consider taking the SAT, since it’s too late for the ACT. A score about 2100 will improve your chances. Other than that, you definitely need a kiss-ass essay to get a good shot at acceptance at MIT. CalTech might be a bit easier, but they’re both pretty much a crapshoot.
Your good for Georgetown and WashU.

I wouldn’t say that any of the schools on your list are safeties necessarily. I’d say that the colleges are really more of matches for you.
Also, if you’re writing anything to WashU, make sure you remember that it’s Washington University in St. Louis, not University of Washington in St. Louis.

I don’t know what heck these people are talking about. Essentially, we have your IPhO medal, and we have the rest of your subpar international stats. Most colleges will probably see one or the other, due to A. their ignorance (seeing only stats, not medal) or B. their intellect (only medal, not stats). If A, a rejection, if you asked for FA, is coming to you, especially at 3, 4, and 5 (I’m anticipating). However, MIT and Caltech will probably fit scenario B (seeing the medal). While the international pool gets bloody for competition at times, you stand a solid chance of being admitted to both regardless of asking for aid. Best of luck.

Cal Tech and MIT are going to be low/mid reaches, but I think you have a good shot at the rest of your choices. Write some killer essays, that will improve your chances at Cal Tech and MIT. Your SAT IIs and your ECs are quite impressive to say the least. The only thing that might have helped is to have a wider range of ECs. Nonetheless, they are still impressive. Good luck! :)

Guys! The problem with me is I cannot afford too much. So, I think my parents are able to pay a sum of around 12k per year. Does this significantly hurt my chances. @mathnerd1: Is it possible that admission officers at such universities are ignorant of medal in IPO?
