Please Chance Me! (Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Brown)

So this is my first “chance me” thread… Let’s see if it works! And thank you in advance! I am a white female from the east coast.

ACADEMICS
I attend a small private school that is known for its rigor. It’s a very challenging academic environment, and a lot of graduates from my school say that college is “easy” after attending this high school.

GPA: 3.68
RANK: My school doesn’t rank, but I’d say I’m in the top 10% of a class of 60 (this is kind of a guess, so don’t weight this so heavily).

SOPH SCHEDULE:
AP Chemistry (without a year of chem before): A
U.S. History: A-
U.S. Literature: A-

Photography 2: A

African Literature (1st sem): A
Latin American History (2nd sem): A
Advanced Nonfiction Prose (2nd sem, hardest class I’ve ever taken): A-

SENIOR SCHEDULE (proposed):

BC Calculus

EXTRACURRICULARS:

Amnesty International Club - treasurer (11), president (12)

Theatre/Drama Club - I’ve acted in numerous plays and musicals during high school, including Grease, The Man Who Came To Dinner, Invisible Friends… It’s a pretty important part of my life. I will be secretary of drama club next year.

Disciplinary Committee - This is a group of 3 (junior rep, senior rep and the president of the student government) students and 4 faculty that “judges” students who have broken big rules (cheating, plagiarism, etc.) and determines consequences. I was elected to be junior representative and senior representative.

Peer Support - This is a group of 12 juniors and seniors that helps incoming freshmen adjust to high school and serves as support for underclassmen in general. Nearly 40 sophomores applied, and only 6 were chosen.

LAMP - This is my school’s literary magazine. I will be co-president next year.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

I volunteer at a local nursing home once a week, doing arts and crafts and other activities with the residents. It’s wonderful, and I’ve made some lovely friends!

OTHER INFO

I have a LEGACY at Harvard and Yale.
I’m maybe going to apply EA at Yale, but not ED anywhere, as I don’t have one clear top choice yet.

If you could chance me at Yale, Harvard, Columbia and Brown, I would be forever grateful! Thank you!

Bump bump bump! If any of you have any suggestions for other schools, I would love to hear them!

I think you have a very good chance, your SAT scores at fabulous. and you are a legacy! LOL at the chinese class with 4 people in it part! but it’s a good learning environment!

I would say you have good chances. Your GPA isn’t mind-blowing but your rank is good; while your extracirriculars aren’t really impressive (except for the disciplinary committee, which sounds good) your SATs are lovely and you’re a legacy to Harvard and Yale!

There’s no way to know for sure what the response from any of the Ivy League schools will be unless you apply. Good luck!

I agree with Wigwam. Your extracurriculars are good, but somewhat bland, and your stats aren’t wowing, especially since the standards are going to be at their highest at the schools you’re considering applying to.

Id say the GPA would be the hinderance. And there are lots of schools that send students to college and the students report back that it was “easy” so that is of little consequence. The GPA is low, but the test scores are great. The ECs are nothing amazing, although still decent. The thing that helps the most is the legacy part. Parents want to donate a new wing to the library? LOL! No, seriously the legacy part will help the most.

Good Luck, but remember Ivy Leagues are still a crap shoot no matter what.

Woops, the GPA is supposed to be 3.86, not 3.68. Thank you for your input, everyone!

yeah just increase your GPA to at least a 3.9 and your good

you have a legacy to HARVARD and YALE? I am SO jealous…LOL
i think you have a very good shot for both Yale and Harvard because a.) You have a Legacy and b.) Your SAT is VERY impressive…make sure you add some more flavor with your essays! let us know how things work out for you! :)

i have legacy at exactly 50% of the places you do!

yayay for early action!

i think your legacy will definitely get you into yale. and a good shot at harvard, but not for certain.

and columbia and brown, well they may not be quite as selective as the two above, but i don’t think you have a shot at getting into them. especially brown which looks for very holistic applications.

honestly, your best bet would be early action yale. its almost a given you’ll get in there.

damn im jealous of u legacies. lol. dats all i wanted to say. everything else the others have already said.

hey, your stats are really good (pending a higher GPA)
and your legacy makes up for averageish EC’s
so i’d say you should get into yale if EA, but you can never really know anything about the rest, especially in regular decision

How many other people at your school will apply to this list? How many are ranked ahead of you?

You will be accepted to every college you apply !

^ lol, if it was only that easy.

I see great test scores, good grades, and ok/good ECs. You do have legacy through, so I think you has as good a chance as any.

I’m currently a senior at Yale and, although I’m not familiar with some of the new SAT scoring (my class was the last to take the old SAT) and I’m not sure what the cutoffs are now for GPAs, I think you have a fairly good shot. To give you some perspective, I had around a 3.6 GPA, a 700 on Verbal, 710 on Math (no Writing at that time), and far fewer extra-curriculars. Adding the fact that you are a legacy, I’d say your odds are pretty good.

Your application looks terrific. I would be surprised if neither Harvard nor Yale accepts you. Would you mind chancing me?

If your school didn’t use plus minus you’d be have a much better chance. Unfortunately, you’re school decides to ruin in to the top students and use plus minus and you now have a significantly lower shot. Still pretty good though.
