Chance me for Yale SCEA.

Chances are always somewhat silly, but with so many “I will,” “my goal is,” etc. in your question, it makes zero sense.

Yale, Harvard, Princeton and Stanford have all said they don’t take anyone in the SCEA round that they wouldn’t take in the RD round. That’s Admissions speak for “We take the best of the best in the early round.”

Generally, that means Admissions is looking for students who are ranked in the top 1% to 5% of their high school class. Students, like you, who are ranked in the top 10% to 15% are usually deferred in the SCEA round – no matter what their ACT/SAT score – as Admissions Officers want to compare you with a larger applicant pool.

So, just based upon your ranking, my gut tells me that if you apply SCEA, there is a high likelihood you will be deferred. The better strategy for students in your situation is to apply to a broad range of non-binding colleges in the early round and apply to HYSP in the regular round.

Hey @jellybean97
Couldn’t tell you chances based on the majority of what you’ve posted. However, I noticed that you swam for your high school…
If there’s one thing I can tell you, it’s that your chances are very good IF you intend on swimming in college. (And if you are a good swimmer.)
I’m a swimmer being heavily recruited by Yale. I’m taking a trip there this fall and there’s a good chance I’ll commit after my trip and I know I have a guaranteed spot despite being a very weak regular applicant.

Here’s some stats about me:

34 ACT
1980 SAT
AP scores: 4, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1
straight A’s minus a few B’s
varsity jazz band member for 9th & 10th grade
not a member of NHS
didn’t swim for my high school
not in any clubs/school organizations
19 hours of community service
that’s it. No other notable accomplishments from me.

Literally I am such a weak applicant, the admissions board would scoff at my application were I not an athlete.
I am not saying that you should swim in college only so you can get accepted. That’s not a good idea if you really don’t want to commit yourself to the sport. I’m just saying that if you are intending on swimming in college, you have a very good shot at getting accepted.
I don’t know how good of a swimmer you are, but if Yale thinks you would make a good contribution to the team, they’ll probably shoot you an email when the recruiting process starts.
Good luck! B-)
