Please chance me!!!!!!!!

I am a high school senior and here are my stats:

Accademic stats
3.15 gpa ( I know it's not good, but the thing is that it has significantly improved since my freshman year)
Sat: 1480 (I know it's bad)
Cr: 520
Math: 460
Writing: 500
I also took a dual credit course at my school and received 6 hours for it. Also, I took an ap class my junior year. I am taking two other ap classes this year

Extra curriculars
4 years varsity football
2 years jv/varsity basketball
2 years jv/ varsity soccer
2 years varsity baseball
I was in my schools play junior year
I have 48 house community service
I am the co-founder of my schools investors club
I have been working a job as a clerk since my freshman year for 10 hours a week
Student council president
Spanish honor society president
I received my schools leadership award my junior year

I feel confident about my application essays, and I know I have great letters of recommendation.

** I don't know if this matters or not but I am Iranian and aside from English I speak two other languages, Farsi and Turkish**

A couple of questions for you:
what is your class rank?
have you shown any interest in A&M by visiting campus, college of choice, doing any of the events for High School Jr/Sr’s - visited a prospectice student center?
What is your 1st & 2nd choice Major?
When did you apply?

My thoughts:
Your SAT scores are not good. With 1210 being average SAT scores of freshman class, your 980 score is seriously low. Wouldn’t matter if you were in top 10% - unless you wanted Engineering, you do not qualify for the college of engineering with that math SAT score.

amirna: I’d suggest you go to the college match tool and also apply to some “safety” schools, where the average scores are closer to yours. I’d consider TAMU to be a reach for you (not unobtainable, but still a reach) unless you are in the top 10% of your graduating class or you represent an under-represented population.

I all of my documents except one have been received and processed on December 1st. The final document has already been received and is waiting to be processed. The admissions office opens on Jan 3rd so, my application should be complete sometime around then.

My class rank is 2nd quarter. My school doesn’t rank, and this is the rank that a&m gave me.

I chose business as my major

Could you at least tell me if I would get offered wait list/blinn team or gateway?

@armina: I’ll bet you will be offered admission thru one of the A&M gateway schools, at least. You might get into TAMU. Don’t lose hope, but always have a backup plan!

I do not think you will be accepted with your current SAT scores. If you want to be in College Station, apply to Blinn - you will be accepted there. Do your best work and you will be able to transfer to A&M.

A&M is a reach school for you. Might be offered Blinn. But if A&M is your goal, then I would do Blinn and transfer.

I wouldn’t count yourself out yet. Low SAT’s doesn’t mean you’ll be automatically denied. You have really good EC’s. They take a holistic approach. Good luck

I don’t know if this would really matter or not, but I just found out that my gpa went up from a 3.15 to a 3.21. My counselor suggested that I send another transcript showing my current gpa. I’m not sure if I should because the increase is so small, I don’t think it would really matter to them.

If A&M is your dream school it certainly wouldn’t hurt to send a new transcript, but unfortunately I really don’t think it will help. My personal opinion is you will not get accepted or offered Blinn Team. However, this isn’t the end of the world. My older sister really wanted to go to A&M and wasn’t offered either. She went to Blinn and got accepted as a transfer soon after.

If you don’t get accepted and A&M is your dream school there’s nothing to be ashamed about by going to another school (if you really want the first year university experience). I think you, like my sister could still experience it through going to Blinn since Texas A&M and Blinn pretty much go together. If not another community college would be just as well. I’m from Austin so many people go to my local community college (ACC) who aren’t originally accepted to UT. Either way when you graduate your degree will still say Texas A&M. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. My school doesn’t rank and a&m ranked me in the 2nd quarter. So I could be anywhere from top 26%-50%. All they put was class rank 2nd quarter. This was my rank when I had a 3.15, but now since it is a 3.21 it may go up. I don’t expect to be top 25% or anything but with the slight increase I could move closer to the top 25. If anything a slight increase in my gpa in the first semester of my senior year could look good. It probably won’t have a significant impact, but it shows an improvement

I was just wondering about something. I started the first semester of my freshman year with a 2.2 (yeah I was extremely LAZY!!) and now I ended the first semester of my senior year with a 3.21 and I was wondering could this type of improvement help me. I know the admissions counselors will hold the fact that I started out poorly against me, but I think they could also see the fact that I have worked hard to improve and could possibly look favorably upon it. Every semester since that year my gpa has always gone up, it has never gone down. I mean even when you look at my transcript you can automatically see the difference between the c’s and b’s of my freshman year and the b’s and a’s of my sophomore, junior, and senior year. In fact, I haven’t even gotten a c since the first semester of my freshman year. I have always been on an upward trend since then.

Improvement is definitely good and I have heard people say that admissions does take stuff like that into account.

How do you know what texas a&m rank you? I mean how do you know they put you in 2nd quarter?

I know because when I received my uin it said class rank 2nd quarter

is the class rank in the AIS tracker also? If so where is it?

Yes the class rank is in the ais tracker. After you log in, you scroll down to the part that says “credentials required for admission” and you’ll see a list of documents like high school transcript or essay a. Well, one of the boxes says class rank and it will tell you your rank

I did essays A,B, and C and I was wondering if they honestly consider them? I know that I have great essays because my topics are unique and sincere. They are to the point with great supporting details. I know the essays are not a huge factor, but I figure those along with my ec’s, great letters of recommendation, and the fact that I have improved academically should help somewhat. I chose general studies as my major and since it’s not the most competitive major at a&m I think I could have a shot of getting in despite my awful sat score.
