Hello everyone, I'll be applying to universities this coming fall and I'm currently looking at Cornell (My uncle is on the faculty so Cornell is naturally my first choice), Princeton (Legacy), Columbia and NYU for safety. Thanks :)

*Female

*Caucasian

*Home schooled since first grade.

*SAT I (May 2011): CR: 800, Math:800, W:800

*SAT II (Nov 2010): French: 800, German: 760

Accomplishments and Music Competitions:

*Finalist, International Tchaikovsky Violin Competition for Young Musicians.

*Semi-Finalist, International Menuhin Violin Competition.

*Guest Principal Second Violin, Gustav Mahler Youth Symphony Orchestra 2010.

*Juilliard Pre-college student from 2006-2008

*Finalist candidate for admission to the Curtis Institute of Music in 2008.

The 2400 is very impressive and the music awards sound good. I am not familiar with music competitions. Are those really notable? If they are amazing i think you have a good chance.

One problem is you do not have any leadership or really anything else. Being home schooled you lose out on the opportunity to show your involvement in activities. Also based on what you show here for all we know you could be a trilingual (impressive but not overwhelmingly so) girl who sits around and plays music all day and has been preparing for the sat all your life. Hopefully you have a way of disproving this. Maybe this can be addressed in rec letters (who would these be written by?).

you haven’t taken sat 2’s in anything other than languages. I’m sure taking others won’t be a problem.

The music EC’s sound very impressive but you have no EC’s aside from music which could go either way with admissions.

Juilliard Pre-College??? CURTIS??!?? Man, I’m jealous <.< …Always wanted to go to Juilliard, but gave up and moved on to bigger and better things… I want to go to Penn :)

But yeah, you’re in at Cornell. With legacy, your chances are way better (from 5.5% at Harvard to 30%!) and that’s Harvard so Princeton might be higher. You have great chances for all of them. Good luck!!!

upennvetgirl727, Haha. Thanks! but I stopped going to Juilliard a few years ago because I just couldn’t handle the competitive atmosphere. Maybe I’ll audition again for my graduate degree in the future…Anyway, good luck to you and I wish you the best for uPenn (:
