Please chance me!

Brown University is my top college, mainly because of the open curriculum. I’m a bit of a free spirit, and I have a lot of interests, so I want to explore different concentrations. I really want to avoid the confines of required courses or the immediate declaration of a major.

I went to a somewhat rural school the first two years, where I took the highest honors classes that an underclassman could take:

Honors Biology, Honors Chemistry, Honors English I & II, Honors Geometry, Algebra II, Honors Precalculus, 4 semesters of concert band, 2 semesters of Foods, Physical Education, World History, and Civics
*Unweighted GPA: 4.0
*Weighted GPA: 4.438

I completed my junior year at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (a two year residential school):

  • American Studies, British Literature after 1837, AP US Gov, Introductory Spanish, Classical Genetics, Evolution, Agri Science, Chemistry, Precalculus & Modeling, Classical Piano
*All classes are at least 5.0. I made straight A’s (which is considered a difficult feat).
    *Weighted GPA: 5.176

I know that my SAT scores are nothing to write home about, but I’m either retaking the SAT or taking the ACT:
*Writing: 610
*Math: 680
*Critical Reading: 680

Extracurricular:

  • 3 summers of volunteering at the YMCA, 1 summer of volunteering at the library, 4 mission trips (1 week each), heavy involvement in church choir and youth group, biology teacher assistant (1 year), docent at a historic house (4 years), Co-President of the Baking Club (1 year), Junior Civitan (1 year), FFA (1 year), Prom Committee (2 years).

Please give me advice and insight! Thank you!
