Please Chance Me!

I am going into senior year and I'm not quite sure of how qualified I am for many schools.

GPA: 3.9 (UW) but my school counts an A- as 4 points. If I count my A-s as 3.7 and take out "fluff" courses, my GPA would be around 3.85.

My course load isn't crazy, but it's pretty rigorous.

ACT: 32 composite (30 E 33 M 32 R 34 S)
Superscore: 34 composite (35 E 33 M 32 R 34 S)

SAT II: 790 Math IIC, 720 Chem

AP tests: Gov (5), Chem (3)

Extra Curriculars

-About ten years of piano and three years of guitar, but I haven't played competitively in either one.
-BBYO (youth group) all throughout high school.
I was the newspaper editor and I made a video for a statewide competition in the organization. We won first place in both newspaper and video.
-Robotics team for two years.
-I got about 30 volunteer hours working for a Lego Robotics camp as a counselor.
"Summer in the City" for a year. It's a community service organization for the bettering of Detroit and I got about 45 volunteer hours working with them that summer.
-Quizbowl
-I have a job during the school year at my synagogue as a Hebrew school assistant once a week.
-I have a job for the summer and may continue working at it during the year (I don't know whether jobs even matter to schools or not)

Also, I'm Hispanic and have been recognized by the National Hispanic Recognition Program.
I also am a National Merit Commended student.

I am applying to University of Michigan, Cornell, UPenn, Northwestern, Duke, Columbia?, and maybe some other schools.

Where do I stand? Thanks!

University of Michigan- High match (I think you’re in)
Cornell- Reach
UPenn- High Reach
Northwestern- Low Reach
Duke- High Reach
Columbia- High Reach

Thanks, fortetennis

I would also really appreciate any suggestions. Is there more that I can do in the summer before my senior year?

I reccommend looking for some safety schools over the summer, you’ve got a pretty solid app, but having one or two safeties is always nice. Work on some college essays over the summer (I already wrote mine for UChicago :D) and get psyched for Senior year. As far as my chances go, I’d say

UMich: Match
Cornell: Reach
Northwestern: High Match
Duke: Reach (I’m a bit biased since I live in NC :P)
Columbia: High Reach

I’d say that any of the Ivies/High Performance schools are ridiculously unpredictable when it comes to admittance, so I’d give anyone who has a chance getting in a reach status. Also, make sure that the schools you’re applying to accept the superscored ACT, I’m not so sure Duke or Columbia does.

Cool, thanks for the advice. Good luck with UChicago!
