Hi, I really appreciate your responses to this! This is actually the first time I’m posting on any college forum… I’m a rising senior and am trying to see what my chances are at these schools, just a heads up I think I am applying ED to brown.

Also I’m middle eastern, so I suppose I am “other” for race/ethnicity.
I’m bilingual (farsi/english)

THANK YOU SO MUCH. Again I really appreciate it.

Let me guess, you go to a super easy public school with all weighted classes? Honors Publications Editing… you’re kidding, right?

hahhha i do go to public school but that class isn’t weighted, it just appears as Honors on the transcript

You mentioned that junior year was your weakest.
Keep in mind that colleges look at your sophomore & mainly your junior year the most.
Also try and get some more volunteering hours in and maybe consider taking a different class rather than Photo 1 unless you are interested in pursuing a career in that type of field.
However, the rest of your “resume” looks good.
Good luck(:

You’re under the “white/middle-eastern” part of the common app, btw. Not “other.” ;)

Your grades going down Junior year, and taking AB instead of BC calculus (if BC is offered at your school) are both very weakening points for you. (Most colleges, not just Brown, want to see a progressively tougher and stronger pattern.)
Unless you have an overwhelming reason (and I’m not a college guidance counsellor) I really might have you consider not applying ED, but getting straight As in your first semester of senior year (in the toughest classes you can take) and showing that you are “more serious” about studying. I think that might give you a better chance at any admissions spot.

i think you have a fairly decent shot. your ec’s are good (but not unbelievable), but I know kids who have gotten into Brown with similar ec’s to yours. you stats/numbers are also good, but it never hurts to take the SAT once more, you can probably reach a 2200+, which would be awesome! You are also a minority, … well, I think… hahaha. Atleast you’re not a WASP (like me! :() It’s worth applying to, and definitely apply ED, I think I might. Good Luck! Please chance me too! :)

IvyLeague4ever: She/he has 210 volunteer hours, I would consider that a large amount of hours!
