PLEASE Chance me!!

Duke was the first school I looked at and the one that I have compared all the others to! I really want to apply ED but I'm worried about FA.

Grades:
3.9 GPA UW
Taking 3/4 AP classes that my school offers my senior year
SAT - 1800 (Don't think I'll send SAT scores in)
ACT - 27 (Going to retake in October, hoping for a 30+)

ECs:
-4 yr JV/Varsity volleyball
-4 yr Varsity track
-3 yrs FIRST Robotics
-3 yrs key club (2 years treasurer)
-2 years student government
-4 yrs marching band
-1 yr math leauge
-started an online jewelry business last summer and in less than a year have had 5,500+ sales in more than 20 countries

Please chance me! :)

Its definitely a reach with those test scores. THe only truely impressive thing is the business, which may help, but its still a reach. Write solid essays and hope for solid letters of rec.

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1544406-chance-me-please-duke-notre-dame-johns-hopkins-etc-ill-chance-you-back.html

Also, if FA is not adequate, and you can prove it, you can get out of your ED agreement.

If I apply RD will I have less of a chance of getting in?

Yes. Your chances are lower if you apply RD and this goes for practically everyone. Duke states this explicitly on their admissions website. ED is probably your best bet in getting in – especially with those scores. I don’t know what your race is but if it’s White or Asian then your odds are even worse.

Hope this helps. I think being this frank is the only way to help you.

Apply ED. There is a much higher admit rate.

Your test scores are your big weak part- if I were you I would take every ACT and SAT up until Nov (I think thats the last one for ED but it might be Oct) and try to get your scores up. Your business is impressive and you seem like a solid applicant, except for below average (for Duke) test scores.

If you’re concerned about FA, get in ED, and don’t like your FA, you can withdraw the acceptance and talk to the FA department

Yes, retake your ACT or SAT

Have you checked the Net Price Calculator on the Duke website to get an estimate of your financial aid package?

Yes, but I am unsure of to account for the income I made from my business, and how that will affect it

I know admissions officers state that there is no specific cutoff when reading applications, but I was wondering if they will even read the rest of your application if you fall far below the 50%?

bump …
