Please chance me!

I go to a very competitive public school in CT. I am a white female. I have a 3.97 weighted. I have 2 grades from advanced classes in Middle School pulling down my GPA. My grades have improved every year along with taking more difficult classes every year. I have 2130 on SAT (720 CR, 710 M, 700 W). SAT II History 760, SAT II Lit 640 (retaking it in Oct). APUSH, AP Psych, and AP Lang (all 4s) in Junior year. Senior year, AP Lit, APES, AP Stats, AP French, AP Econ, AP Gov. Teacher rec and guid counselor rec should be great. 2nd teacher rec will be very good. Essay is very good. It is about how I have learned to live within the instability of an alcoholic family. One of my parents has been in and out of recovery for the last 6 years which was the reason my grades suffered in Middle School.

Will be applying ED to Middlebury

Thanks so much for chancing me!

I’ll leave the chancing of the metrics to others. If I were deciding your fate, I’d want to know, why would Middlebury be a good fit for you and vice versa? Maybe you already know why and your essay tells that story well.

Are grades from middle school really part of the GPA that colleges look at for admissions decisions? That doesn’t sound right.

At my high school, the high school level classes that you take in middle school count on your high school gpa. I got 2 Bs in 8th grade in high school classes that are just pulling down my gpa.

Why Middlebury? Middlebury has a great theater department. I also love the idea of Jan term when I can focus on one subject while having some free time to relax with friends. I also like the idea of the Commons system with the housing and freshman seminar intereconnected. It seems like a great way for the bonds from freshman year to solidify. Finally, the campus is just so beautiful. I can’t wait to see it in the Fall and when it is covered in snow.

bwaygirl1 - I might ask your counselor to perhaps explain that in your recs. Hard to believe that taking advanced classes would work against you overall, but my kids’ high school didn’t rank under the idea that it more or less forces adcoms to look at actual classes taken vs just a gpa.

bwaygirl1 - The only person I can think of that has founded more things than you is George Washington, so maybe you are good to go. Your “Why Middlebury?” is a good start. Did you attend a performance at Wright Memorial Theatre, and envision yourself bowing to applause? Did you find out what this years First Year Seminar options were, and choose one vicariously? You get the idea, but keep the details off of this thread so you don’t write someone else’s essay for them.

bummmmmmpp

You seem like a great admit to me, but who knows what Middlebury wants for 2014. I think you will be admitted, but I don’t know jack.
