Please Chance Me?

This is my first post, so please forgive me for any errors I make.

I will be applying to Georgia Tech in the fall for Early Action, my stats are as follows:

I am an Asian American (Indian) Male from California, so I will be applying out of state.

GPA
(9-12) UW: 3.66
(9-12) W: 4.16
(10-12) UW: 3.71
(10-12)W: 4.38

Rank: 28/561 (Barely top 5%)

I'm afraid this is a bit weak because, not only did I slack my freshman year, but there were also no ap or otherwise weighted courses available that year at my school. I have, however, a massive upward trend following freshman year. In addition, I have largely taken the most rigorous courses offered at my school. I was one of 5 people that took 2 AP classes sophomore year and I was one of 3 people that took 6 APs Junior Year. I was also the only one to get a 5.0 one semester and a 4.83 (one B) the other. I will have taken 13 AP classes by the time I graduate.

SAT I (GT Superscores?) 2200 composite
CR: 680 (ouch!)
M:800
W:720

SAT II
Math II: 760 will retake in October to hopefully get 800
Bio: 720
US Hist.: 700

AP Scores (Still waiting for release in July)
World Hist.: 5
CS.: 5

My brother goes to Tech if that helps anything, doubt it, but it's there.

Recommendation letter will come from my math teacher who I had for both sophomore and junior years. She really liked my presence in her class and I am expecting a great letter from her.

Still have yet to write the essays, but I think it will be fairly well written and express my interests quite well.

Bump

Hey! I made it in Early Action last year to GT. Looks like you will get in just fine with what you have now, so I definitely recommend you apply early.

Do you have any ACT scores? If not, you should at least take it once, as you might have an easier time on it than on the SAT.

@Apollo922‌

Yes, I do have ACT scores, but I don’t really plan on sending them because they aren’t too great. I kinda just took it for the heck of it, without studying, just to see what I would get.

I have:

33 Composite
29 English
34 Math
32 Reading
36 Science
30 Combined English/Writing (11 score on essay)

From what I understand Georgia Tech throws out composite, reading, and science, so what I have left isn’t really that hot. I will be retaking it in September after studying, so hopefully I will end up doing better. The main problem I had with the ACT was time management, I found myself rushing through many problems after spending too much time on others, likely causing me to make stupid mistakes.

I don’t know if they throw out parts of the ACT, but I do know that they “super super” score (their term). This means that they take your best out of all the info they have. ie best math out of ACT/SAT,best CR out of ACT or SAT, essentially mixing SAT and ACT if that gets you a higher score. At least that’s what I was told a the official visit talk.

@‌kks1236 aren’t all of your ACT scores around the 95th+ percentile? If so, then what do you mean, “my scores aren’t really that hot?”

@homeSickFungus‌

I’m not sure if they are, but my english and combined eng/writing are both below average for tech, I think?

@Stilltay‌

According to this: <a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission;

'We use all three portions of the SAT and/or the three equivalent parts of the ACT, as outlined below. We do not use the ACT Composite score nor the Science or Reading score."

As for the superscore, I wasn’t aware that they did across both tests until you told me, thanks for the info! I will be retaking the ACT in September, so that should motivate me to prepare for the English portion much more.

Write a GREAT essay and you’ll probably get in.
I applied on the very last day with mediocre stats compared to some people who were flat out denied (I was waitlisted but didn’t take the spot), and I think my essay definitely pulled me through. And it was about working on my car, certainly not something they read before. If you want my advise for the essay, write about something you’re passionate about that creatively but still clearly responds to the prompt and it will turn out MUCH better than trying to write about something you didn’t really care about.
Early action, from what I saw on here, was VERY hard. You can dig up the thread I’m sure, but there were people with 2300 SAT’s who were denied.

Thanks for the advice, I’m not too worried about the essay as I already have a topic planned out and I have already started brainstorming ideas for it.
