Hello everyone! I’m a current high school senior and I’d really like to get into SLO for their architecture program, but I’m not quite sure if I’d be accepted because I’m close to SLO’s architecture acceptance averages…

So far:

Cumulative weighted GPA: 4.04
Cumulative unweighted GPA: 3.72
CSU GPA: 3.96
SAT M+R: 1280 (Without studying, suggest retaking? I’m SLO’s average now for their architecture program)

(Math - 650
Reading - 630
Writing - 580)

AP Classes:
10 - AP Euro 3, AP Stats 3
11 - AP Bio 4, AP Psych 5, AP Eng Lang 3, AP US Hist 4
12 (Classes signed up) - AP French, AP Physics I, AP Calc AB, AP Econ, AP Eng Lit, AP Gov

The only AP Classes that I’m not taking that is provided for by my high school is AP Calc BC, AP Physics II, and AP Chemistry.
Otherwise, I’ve never turned down an honors course.

I’m currently in the top 5% of my high school.

Extra Curricular:

I know arch is super competitive because of slo’s rankings. I’m nervous about applying.

To optimize your chances, study and retake the SAT. The SAT IS NOT A MEASURE OF KNOWLEDGE. It is a game. It requires you learn the rules and tricks. Get a prep book if you want, but most importantly, take timed test sections from the big blue book regularly and then go over ALL answers wrong AND right.

Also, recalculate your GPA with Poly’s calculator. They count Freshman year whereas the CSU calculator doesn’t.

My SLO GPA is a 3.94 then making me their Architecture department’s average GPA and SAT score.

Also, would it be easier or harder to get into Architectural Engineering? It’s in the Architecture department rather than the Engineering department and it interests me a bit more than just Architecture. Would it also be possible to double major in Arce and Arch since they are so closely related?

I’m planning to apply the first day it opens for Early Decision because I’m very much set on going to SLO.

Architectural Engineering is equally if not slightly more difficult to get into than a straight architecture major. My D is an incoming architecture major but I understand that freshmen don’t have to declare their emphasis in the CAED school until the end of the year. If you are absolutely committed to CP SLO then apply early decision since chances are somewhat better than regular decision. Should you not get in ED you’re automatically rolled over into regular decision. Should you reject your ED admission however then next opportunity is as a junior transfer and that is significantly harder so such a decision is not to be taken lightly.

I’m fully committed to SLO so I’ll definitely apply for ED! I’ve looked at so many colleges and SLO is definitely the best option for me. Hopefully I can get in!

I’ll be retaking the SAT in October so hopefully that’ll make my chances better if I do get rolled over into RD.

You’ll have to look at test and GPA averages for each major to assess the difficulty of each pool, but CP actually predicted a higher admission percentage for architectural engineering (just over 50%) than Architecture (just over 40%). By CPs predictions, AE would be an easier admit than A, all things in the applicant pools equal. Good luck.
