ACT: 31 (waiting on new scores, hopefully higher)
Dad did not go to college, mom only has an AA degree from community college.
Parents were born in Afghanistan.
Will probably not qualify for financial aid and has not had super hardships.
Has letters of rec from elected officials as well as teachers.
Essay will be really good</p>

Has visited Afghanistan 2 times
Volunteered extensively in education in Afghanistan in 2013 (really extensively) [in education and development of orphanages]
Founder and president of a club to donate money to an orphanage in Afghanistan
Volunteered for an organization that holds soccer tournaments in America and donates proceeds to soccer development there
Voted most likely to succeed, junior homecoming prince and senior homecoming court (if that counts for anything)</p>

<p>You have almost zero chance with your SAT and ACT scores. If you bring it up to 2100+ you would have a good chance at all the schools.</p>

<p>While your GPA and test scores are good, they are unfortunately on the very low end of those admitted to that list of schools. Make sure you have a balanced list of schools and be sure to included some matches and safeties. You should run your list past your high school counselors and see if they can help you come up with a more realistic list of schools.</p>

<p>I think you have a nice chance! You are applying to a wide range of schools so that is VERY good! Try to get your SAT up a little :slight_smile: Just take as many practice writing and reading sections as possible, and your scores should improve there. You have a really interesting story so I recommend playing that up in your essays, but as genuinely as possible! You don’t want to sound pretentious and as if you did all things just to get into college–the admissions directors want to see who you are FOR REAL so don’t try too hard. </p>
