I’m an out of state student (more like way out of state, American living in Saudi Arabia, haha). And I’ve applied to UW for Winter '16.
- I have no idea what my cumulative GPA is because my school follows a hella weird system, and it’s not on my transcript, but I have a 3.0 and 3.3 in ninth and tenth, and a 3.9 in both junior and senior year.
- 1970 SAT score or 2000 superscore
- No APs because my school doesn’t offer them
- ECs: Vice-president of student-council, vice-president of photography club, member of drama club and had a part in a school play, have a journalism award from YJI, two academic awards in my junior and senior year.
I used the Special Circumstances section to explain that I didn’t have any work/volunteer experience and AP credit because of my location, so I’m not worried about that. My GPA is the only thing that is bothering me. Does it make a difference that it’s an upwards trend / improvement?
Thank you!
Also may I add that I’m fairly confident about my essays. I just need some insight on how my GPA could hurt me.
Upward trends are always good. It shows growth, and they’re obviously better than a downward slope. However, they don’t overwrite a GPA lower than what they’re looking for.
The part where you say that your school doesn’t put your GPA on your transcript is weird. If what you say is true and your school is on a weird system, it’s hard to tell. From what you said, your average GPA is around a 3.5 or so? If that’s true, it’s a shred under their accepted average, but UW is holistic and looks at everything.
UW is going to take your transcript and likely re-calculate it with their system (“fluff” courses that inflate GPA are going to get written out). The average unweighted GPA of accepted students is something like a 3.76 or 3.8, if that helps.
@GoDawgs182 Yeah, it is strange that my GPA isn’t on my transcript and has a lot to do with the fact that credits are distributed according to class importance (cores like Calculus and English 4 have 1 credit, classes like religion have as little as 0.25 credit, and that is for the whole year).
Do you think my SAT score is alright? I used to think so, but I read a comment somewhere about someone getting rejected with a 2190.
Thank you for your thoughts!
