Whatsup man. Id say with those stats you probably have a good chance at about 5% of those college choices- I know it sounds F'd up but I'm being brutally honest here. I'm currently a Junior at UPenn, and I've hung around the admissions office A LOT. Your stats need to be a lot more diverse- especially in the EC's

StevenP9891, *** kind of ******** are you spreading. This guy's great. 4 AP's by the end of senior year, 31 ACT, state finalist in forensics. I think you have a great chance at most of the universities you've listed--although Penn and Cornell will be high reaches.

These Look Pretty Good:
Indiana Univ
Purdue
Case Western
Washington (St. Louis)
Univ of Rochester

Maybe:
U of Michigan
Northwestern
Rice

The others are going to be big reaches, in my opinion. But they are for everyone. Because you're only in the top quarter and not the top 5 or 10% at your school. If other kids apply to the same places, you might look weak in comparison.

should I revise my college list? am I aiming too high? which area is my weakest? what can I improve on? took me a while to figure out that steve is a troll.

some things I forgot to mention:
National Merit commended scholar (so far)- PSAT = 214
social studies dept commendation (10)
honors list (2 semesters), headmasters list (4 semesters)
speech team award for excellence in persuasive speaking (10)

I don't think these will help much, but I feel I have done a decent job in high school. sometimes, I just think that this whole admissions process can really be a crapshoot, which is why I (nor my parents) are going to break down if I don't get into Wonder College. thx guys for the advice.

Also, I was wondering what type of incidents warrant explaining. basically, I broke my leg (fibula and talus) in september. should I (or college counselor) mention that somewhere or would that look like an excuse.

What does breaking your leg have to do with school? If kids can get into Harvard while living in crack houses or going through chemo, your broken leg doesn't matter. Don't mention it.

Talk to your counselor and focus your list a bit more. Find similar, but less selective schools that you want to go to. You're list is pretty good, if LONG. If you want to apply to a big reach then go ahead! By all means. But work your tuckus off on your app.

And for math/engineering Georgia Tech and CMU are also going to be hard. If that's what you're looking to study.

And Haverford, Middlebury, Amherst, and Vanderbilt are going to take kids who are just as good as Yale's, Columbia's, Penn's, etc. So be aware.
