buuummpppp

I think that your extracurriculars really boost your application. It will probably come down to your recommendations. My guess is that you get in.

Remember most valed/salut do not get in and most w/ near perfect test scores don't either. I mean when you subtract the athletes, URMs, legacies, VIPs, etc. HC's acceptace rate for the rest drops to close to 5%. That all said, you might get in, but if you don't, you will get into a very good school somewhere.

thank you so much for your input!

you only took 2 AP tests? i'm a sophomore and i've already taken 3...ill have more than fifteen by the time i graduate probs. anyway i dont think you have that high of a chance...it seems like your school is really uncompetetive and not demanding if you can be president of that many clubs..where do you live?

^ Some schools don't even offer AP's, and people go to HYP nonetheless.

Good chance. I say your ASB Pres and Val help a lot. 50% I say.

"it seems like your school is really uncompetetive and not demanding if you can be president of that many clubs"

That's an asinine assumption.
Some leaderships are passed down via the spoils system/favoritism/nepotism.
Also, I'd like to reiterate that the "AP" label is pretentious and makes one the tool of the Collegeboard.

Anyway, you seem like a very competitive candidate!
Hope you're accepted!

Thanks for you encouraging words, kwu and TheGirlsLoveMe.

I really hope I get into Harvard!

imabum: I took two AP tests as well and am already into MIT EA, which is arguably more difficult to get into than harvard as a white or asian male.

Everything is considered in the context of your school, don't listen to his misinformed ranting. Your class rank of 1/294 clearly shows that you are taking the most demanding course load and excelling at it.

its definitely not more difficult. This azn girl @ my school got rejected to UPenn but into MIT...i guess you just have to fit the nerd stereotype.

& me2008's class rank actually just shows that she is at an easy school probably surrounded by hicks who have never heard of harvard. If half the kids in NYC moved to Kansas they'd be in HYP just like that too.

They wouldn't be as "good" if they grew up in Kansas. If you took a NYC kid and changed the location on his app to "kansas", I can agree with you basically. But if he actually grew up in Kansas, the kid wouldn't turn out the way he did in a competitive NYC school.. he would have had fewer rigorous courses and easier curricula.

ACT is low for Harvard.

What's your SAT 1?

I'm gonna say a negative, seriously. Your grades are decent (for Ivy) but your e.c is very very typical (for Ivy). President of this, founder of that, blah blah.

I don't see any employment either, which is always a big plus.

It wouldn't so bad if I was able to determine what your interests are. Your e.c and awards don't tie well with each other. You really need to work hard at demonstrating genuine pursuits of interests, instead of random activities.

You'll definitely get in somewhere great, but I'm concerned the people above me are being too positive. Don't be shocked when the deferral comes in the mail.

Also, why Harvard?

Pretty decent chance, but don't count on it, seriously.

Anyways, forgive my ignorance, but can someone tell me what "bump" means on these chance threads?

Bump = Bring life!

Threads often get pushed past first page without responses, so authors resort to the "bump" method to resuscitate..: )

Hey Everyone,
I wanted to thank you all for your honest input.

I just wanted to provide some additional info: I am from a very large high school, about 2000 students in Michigan. We send atleast 2 or 3 students to HYP every year. I am also taking all the possible AP classes offered. However, we weren't able to take AP classes until junior year and thus I only have two.
Also, I want to add that I have worked very hard and earned all my leadership postions. Its not because my highschool is uncompetitive.

I agree that my ACT score is low:( I am not a very good test taker. I didn't take the SAT I. As for my interests, I am interested in science and looking for maybe doing med or dentistry. When it comes to E.C, I just like to pursue all my interests. Unfortunately, it may come out that I don't have focused interest but it just really means that I like everything...lol

Why Harvard?
~ Well, "why not" is the real answer. I just want a school that will allow me to pursue all my passions, in dance and academics while also preparing me for the real world. There are millions of other reasons including an superb academics, people, library, research opportunities and student organizations!
The list is endless!

Thanks again for all your inputs. All I can do is hope for the best, and good luck to all of you aswell.

you are just like the average applicant to Harvard--nothing more, nothing less. I'd say 50% of the decision is now based on pure luck

I'm really betting on a negative. There just so many better "average" applicants and your resume isn't exactly overwhelming.

Good luck though.
