someone on cc told me that most of my colleges are reaches. and this makes me very very nervous. (the other colleges i applied to are upenn, columbia, nyu, vassar and barnard)

they are reaches for everyone, with the exception of maybe NYU. Your SAt's are a bit low for those schools, you really need to try and retest in jan and bump them up to 2200+.....even you sat 2's are low for those schools :/ sat's arent everything, but they help. are you a URM by any chance?

Dear suejinxp : Read through some of the profiles of accepted Boston College 2012 candidates here on College Confidential and you will see why your credentials have you identified as a stretch candidate.

Your two-way SAT score is just at the median for Boston College and certainly third or possibly fourth quartile for Columbia and University of Pennsylvania. As we have written before, "pretty good" essays get you into "pretty good" schools, not Boston College and others you have suggested.

The fact that you quit track is not a positive - hence you have no sustained sports activity in High School. You should be ready to discuss your music background. Your profile has no honor societies (although you hopefully are involved) and limited extra curricular and volunteerism. At top 2% in your class, your eleventh place ranking will not do well with the Ivy Schools. Academically, your Intel paper might be a huge story IF and ONLY IF you manage to get through the first round - be sure to stress that work during your junior and senior High School years.

You show absolutely no Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate work. Therefore, it is all the harder to judge the strength of your High School curriculum and Francis Lewis will be of modest reputation.

Honestly, acceptance at Penn, Columbia, or Boston College will be a long shot. Similarly, NYU (New York hook), Vassar, and Barnard are no better than 50/50. Good luck and we truly hope that there is just a large amount of missing detail in your profile.

um i changed it a bit.

um, i changed it. does this increase my chances a bit? thank you so much for giving me all that info.

I think you are still a reach for virtually every school with the exception of possibly NYU and Barnard. I would find a solid safety, if I were you.
