What are my chances?

my friend got in with a SAT of 1720 to UVA engineering. BUT.....that was back in 2007. Things have changed. If not accepted, you'll probably be waitlisted because of the SAT. i doubt that you will be rejected on the spot. But for an engineer your math score is quite low. SATII is not easy to get a 800 on if you can't get over 700 on SAT 1. Getting a low score on SAT1 Math is not because it's hard but because it's easy to make stupid mistakes. SATII math is hard + it's easy to make mistakes. i hope you do well on it. For MIT you stand a very low chance because of your SAT. I'm surprised that you got a high gpa and class rank but have a low SAT. if you had a better SAT, you would be able to look out for some very good schools.

Im just gunna make some comments and ask some questions even though Im going to be applying as a legacy student to UVa the same time you are.

How are you taking both Calc AB and BC in the same year and/or at the same time?
Most of the time there should be correlation to grades in an AP class and grades on the AP exam, but in your case your GPA is still above a 4.0 even though you got a 2 on APUSH? Also, Im pretty sure colleges like to see dedication when it comes to ECs, and you have a lot of stuff that you did for 1-2 years which isnt too much dedication considering you had 4 years to find clubs/activities that you like. There should also be a slight correlation between your SATs and your GPA. Personally, I dont think having above a 4.0 GPA and not breaking 1900 on the SAT's out of 3 times that you took them looks too good.

Just my personal opinion, you can look at the chances I posted for me and criticize me if ya want =)

I really don't know how to explain my scores. I just went to collegeboard.com and found that they were generally in the 50% range for UVA, or a little bit below that. I guess I'm relying on the GPA and class rank thing a bit too much. Stupid me for not taking the SAT's well enough :(

My stupid school requires students taking calculus to take both AB and BC. We take BC one semester everyday, then AB the next semester everyday. So yep, calculus straight everyday the entire year.

I honestly don't think there's a determined correlation between GPA and scores and stuff, but if there is then I guess I don't fit in the correlation.

Sooooo... I dunno I really want to get into UVA badly but yeah I guess it's really variable for me. :/

Some people don't do well on standarized tests, although you have nothing to be ashamed in your scores. Your class rank is great! Good luck.

Quick question: If I do reallllly bad on my sat II's will it affect my admissions?

I have been told that SAT IIs can only help you (or do nothing for you) at a school that does not require them. I asked Dean J a few questions about the SAT IIs and she said, "your score isn't going to 'make or break' your application".

You are in-state which helps a lot.

From what I gather, for UVA, the SATs just don't count as much as that GPA/course rigor..

Yeah I've realized that the most helpful things to me are class rank, GPA, in-state residency, academic rigor and grades, and maybe ethnicity. Is all that good enough?

Bump, anyone else wanna help decide if I'm good enough, minimally?

your asian so that hurts you as it hurts me.

and the others are right even though u have a great gpa your ap scores arent good so that might show grade inflation.

the ranks awesome but you need better standardized tests.

i think you're alright for instate

and virginia requires sat2s so it will hurt you if you perform poorly

UVA doesn't require SAT2s. They are recommended. but plenty of people get in without them.
