There are several people at my school that also surprisingly got rejected/wait listed while others surprising got in, so I’m not sure what W&M valued the most in applications this year.

It is what it is and all I can do is keep my hopes up for UVA. If they don’t feel I am right for their school either I will indeed try to transfer (unless I end up loving CNU/VCU like soccerguy stated).

Nick, truly I am stunned. I really thought you would be accepted to William and Mary! I imagine that you are very confused and disappointed. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you at UVA.

Sincere thanks for coming back on this thread and letting us know. Hang in there dude, everything will work out. I hear that UVA letters will be out before the end of this week.

Nick Mc I’m very sorry to hear of your waitlist at UVA and rejection from William and Mary. It still confuses me. I wish you sincere luck on your college admissions process.

NickMc: Was your essay strong? I haven’t heard back from W&M yet (good or bad), but for some reason they seem like the sort of college that would really look hard at the essays – personal, artistic voice… did you do the optional essay?

This information has made me extremely nervous, being that my stats are fairly close to yours :S I would really like to know how all these colleges decide who is admitted. I thought you would have been accepted no problem, especially with your long dedication to Boy Scouts–that shows persistence.

Anyway, incredibly sorry to hear the bad news. A rejection letter really does feel like a blow to the gut (I just got rejected from Rice); but keep your head up high! You seem like a stellar student. Good luck with everything.

I never like my own essays, but the people that I had proof them seemed to think they were good. I don’t enjoy writing though, so they couldn’t have been amazing.

Good luck.

Going to a safety school is the blow to the gut, considering I want to study business administration. Seeing that keeping my hopes up didn’t seem to work for me thus far, I am going to assume I will be attending CNU next semester and will just have to try for the transfer. Now to find all the CNU mail that I carelessly tossed to the side.

William and Mary went all crazy and accepted 50+% (I almost died of laughter when I saw that % in an article on their website) of ED applicants this year, so I guess I can see some reason for low RD acceptance rate, but you should still have been a prime candidate either way.

I am frankly as shocked as everyone else here at your rejection and hope you are able to transfer in where you want next year.

I’m somewhat surprised that you didn’t get wait listed at list, but I’m not completely shocked. There has to be a balance between how much you challenge yourself, your GPA, class rank, and SAT scores. I think the SAT might have hurt you, but I heard that they look at community service a LOT. As you are an Eagle Scout that definitely should have helped. Who knows, the admissions process is crazy sometimes.

And as for the ED acceptance rate, what I’ve heard is that the rate is supposed to be significantly higher because a LOT of students that are passionate about the college choice (because it’s binding) and quite a bit that are more than qualified apply early.
