Also, which should I ED at?

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have a great shot, but nothing is ever certain.

Where you ED at is totally dependent on you…you should only ED if you’ve fallen in love with that particular school and are 100% intent on going there.

I really want to go to Duke, if I ED do my chances increase by alot?

I have no idea. They either want you or they don’t.

The acceptance rate for ED applicants are higher than RD, for all colleges. But this is due to several factors (legacy, smaller applicant pool, etc… ) and doesn’t necessarily mean it’s easier to get in. From what I heard, the ED pool actually has stronger applicants so your chances of admission are generally the same for ED and RD. Still, based on statistics, Duke accepted 36% of ED applicants and only 16% of RD applicants.

What if any of your schools (Johns Hopkins, UPENN, NYU STERN, Northwestern, Cornell) except Duke, had a higher ED acceptance rate. Where would you apply? Hopefully you’re still interested in Duke, regardless of the others, since ED is binding. You wouldn’t really want to regret a binding commitment, would you?

I loved Duke since I was kid, its just that I feel that if I ED there I might not make it.

Hey michaelli, as far as I know, I’m pretty sure that NYU Stern and Penn (both schools which LOVE ED applicants) have top notch business related majors. But for the ED decision, I can tell you that my brother thought that Duke was his dream school too (my mom’s an alumni, so he was very well acquainted with the place), and so he thought about applying ED, but after doing a lot of extensive research, he realized that the major he wanted to go into (similar to yours-- business/international relations/economics related) at schools such as Penn and NYU was better, so he wanted to weigh out all of his options. Still, he decided to apply ED (because he loved Duke), and he ended up getting deferred (and later accepted). Ultimately, my brother ended up going to UPenn, and says that that was one of the best decisions that he’s made, because not only did he like Penn better, but also because Penn offered more money to him.

So my honest advice to you is to apply RD, and see what other schools have to offer. Applying ED doesn’t necessarily mean it’s “easier” to get in, and like what keikoblue said, there’s a stronger pool of applicants during ED, as opposed to the pool in RD, when everyone applies, and where you might just get lucky. My brother actually had very similar stats to yours, and he was a legacy, but he ended up getting deferred. But hey! He got accepted into UPenn. :)

There are so many more benefits of applying RD to any school, and remember that a college can be your dream school, until when you actually go there/experience it first hand that you realize that it’s not all you thought it would be. (in the case of my brother, even when he went to the campus several times)

Hope I helped somewhat! :)

thank you rocketblues. I hope I get in to Duke but I’ll be very happy with Penn Stern or Northwestern. Thanks for all your help.
