have a decent shot.

apply and see

^ “decent” ?!?!?

ive seen people with maxed out stats get rejected.

Further - decent is leaning positive. Stats look good. Im not on the adcom so decent is above average but not guaranteeing anything

I encourage everyone to apply. They make the decisions. What I say makes no difference. So why should someone on CC stop them from applying?

A “Where can I improve” thread may be better worded and useful

Thank you both… I’m a rising senior so I don’t think there’s much I can improve on, but I’m open to suggestions.

Maybe I’m misinformed about Rice’s selectivity but it looks to me like she’s guaranteed to get in, (35 ACT, HUGE dedication to environment, 800 SAT II’s), but Antarius you’re the one who’s going to Rice so I guess you’re right.

As for improvement, there’s not much you can do now about your resume, but you should work on your essays right now and talk especially about either languages or your dedication to the environment (related to your awards).

in all likelyhood - she will get in.

However, i have seen many super qualified applicants get turned down. If the admission process was plug and chug , then I would say yes

But a lot depends on essays, recommendations and just how they feel about you. A lot of the process is using data provided to see who will fit into rice well and succeed here.

ripemango - my opinion is that she has good stats and I could easily see her getting into rice. But there are a lot of unknowns to me and adcoms have their own way of determining things that it could go the other way

op - this applies to everyone, not just you. In terms of SAT/ACT scores you have done significantly better than I did. But I know people who had better stats than I did get rejected, and those with worse got in.

Basically, just apply. You have good solid stats and a good list of EC’s. Do the best you can on your application and good luck!

Thank you very much! I won’t get my hopes up.

its not a question of getting hopes up. Rice is hard to get into - that is a fact. You should be able to get in.

All im saying is dont relax and coast now and make sure that the other parts of your app (essays , recos) are as good as possible

I’m working very hard on my essays and my recs should be great. Thanks again!

let us know if you have any other q’s

good luck

You are exceptional and Rice will be honored to have you! Great school, heading there next week for info session and interview with my son.

Wow, thank you so much. Best of luck to your son!

You chances at rice are good. The fact that you are from the northeast, where rice doesn’t get a whole lot of applicants from, should help your application. If your private school is really nationally renown (like Andover) than you have a decent shot at ivy league schools as well.
