Please chance my ED at Engineering :)

Hey guys! I know everything is submitted, but now that my application is in and final the stress has gone up a lot! I do realize that I should be working on my other/backup apps since the 2 weeks between the ED decision and RD deadline is hardly enough. Still, I would like to know how good my chances are before I completely kill myself over these tons of other essays... personally i'm not as convinced i'm "in" as some of my friends are.

Background: White Jewish male from NJ suburb, my school sends 5-10 to ivies yearly.
I applied early decision to the College of Engineering as an intended Computer Science major.

Stats:
GPA(u): 3.75, GPA(w): 4.300, rank:14/360 (top 4%) I have taken the most rigorous course of studies my school offers 4/4 years

Best (not super) SAT1: 800M 720V 690W (I think Cornell just sees the 1520)
Best SAT2's: 800 Math2, 800 Physics

Other scores (since i heard Cornell isn't thrilled if you retake too much):
SAT1 760M 670R 630W
SAT2 - 790 Math2 (I'm crazy... i know), 780 Math1, 740 Physics ,710 US History

AP's: Stat(5) Calc AB(5) Physics B(5) US History(4) Calc BC() Comp Sci() Chem() Physics C() Music Theory() i took/am taking all of the corresponding classes

Extracurricular:

Leo Club President - community service (50 hours total) - 4 year member
Quiz Bowl Captain - 2 year member
NHS Technology Coordinator/Webmaster - 2 year member
FBLA Webmaster - 4 year member - 3rd Place Tech Concepts and Parliamentary Procedure at States
Film Club Vice President - 4 year member
Latin Club - 4 Year member
40 Hours working with a boy with special needs
20 hours playing music at Alzheimer's home
3 years JV Tennis, 2 years XCountry, 1 year Marching Band
Several compsci, Latin, technology awards
nominated as finalist for Gov School (engineering)... didn't get in
other minor activities/awards/achievements on resume

My engineering essay was read by 2 smart friends and my parents... everybody said it was "good". I think it could have said more specific things about Cornell and less about my interest. Nobody reviewed my common app essay :(, but both my teacher recommendations showed i am a good student and passionate about technology.

So, i guess this should have been done about 1 month ago... but i'd still really appreciate your opinions!!!! I'll chance back for your RDs since the rest of you are sane! Thanks for your time.

what’s a bump?

you are a match.

thank you, anyone else?? these perpetual butterflies are horrible

i gues u r good to go…affirmative

yep…dannygirsh …Cornell is going to take you in with open arms…

these responses make me very (too?) hopeful! i just visited the campus yesterday and absolutely LOVED it. any other opinions? sooo many of you have viewed this post but didnt comment… please write something!

I didn’t comment because I have no clue how to chance. I’m only a high schooler- how would I know whether you’re a match or not? lol

Thanks again for the replies. 2 new questions for everybody: 1) any pointers for my upcoming alum interview? 2) what Northeastern US engineering schools are equal/slightly under Cornell that I have a shot at for RD if i get rejected or deferred?

Johns Hopkins, Tufts, Carnegie Mellon, Columbia, Cooper Union, Olin College of Engineering, Princeton, Virginia Tech, Penn State, RPI, RIT, Duke

ttyl8, you are very wise in recognizing your current limitations. I applaud you.

this seriously scares me… so you’re saying i have better/equal chances at Carnegie, Princeton, CU, Olin, and Duke??? or are those equal/under Cornell Engineering in rank but not selectivity?

Olin and Princeton are harder, the others are relatively easier.

I wouldn’t worry too much about anything. Your stats are fine and its out of your hands now.

My SATs and SAT 2’s are similar to yours and I kept obsessing about this for weeks, but there’s really nothing we can do now. A lot of people that apply can do the work - the rest is in your essays and recs.

cooper union is DEFINITELY not easier. ************** gave me 0.0% :P

no I am saying they are equal or slightly below Cornell in rank and are in the NE. The hard ones are Cooper, Olin, Princeton, Hopkins.

dude. u have an amazing chance. Its applicants like you that make me cry knowing I wont get in (its not yoru fault i slacked in high school).

*side note… does anybody go to cornell football games? when i visited it appeared that they were playing columbia but there were definitely more players on the field than fans in the stadium. a few people were even jogging up the steps for exercise during the game! and it was a friday night too! was this a freak event or a weekly occurrence? maybe people only watch hockey there…

bump
decision in (1 week - 92 mins)!!! CAN’T WAIT
any other feedback might calm me
comment on the end of your post if you want me to chance back

It’s my understanding that they save their cheering for the hockey games.

ACCEPTED!!! and all this time i though u guys were just being nice :P

… and for the person who might bump this in 3 years…
