Please chance my friend- recieved his LSAT score today

Hello everyone,

A good friend of mine received his LSAT score today. He didn't do as stellar as he had envisioned and has pretty much given up, but I think he's still competitive. He had originally planned on applying to Columbia, Hastings, NYU, Berkeley, UCLA, USC, Michigan, and U of Chicago. Please let me know if he still stands a chance. I appreciate your feedback in advance. Below is his info

vice president of undergrad university
3.67 GPA cumulative (majored in Philosophy, Law, and Mathematics)

159 LSAT score

graduated in 3 years

and he was heavily involved in campus..not that that matters too much for law school I've heard.

Thanks again for reading.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but unless your friend is a URM, he doesn't really have much of a shot at any of those schools. Having graduated in 3 years means nothing, and though heavy campus involvement helps, it won't make up for the numbers. Honestly, even if the LSAT score were 10 points higher, he would probably not make it at Columbia, NYU, Berkeley, Michigan, or Chicago. I would suggest he take a look at schools where his numbers are above the median GPA/LSAT. For nearly all the schools currently listed, his numbers fall short of the median by a large margin.

that's understandable. I just wanted to know from the viewpoint of people actually researching/in law school. Does anyone have any recommendations for schools within his reach?

Whoa, I agree with crnchycereal. He's auto-reject at everywhere except possibly Hastings, and even there I think he would be waitlisted before being admitted.

ECs don't even matter. He needs to bring that LSAT up, big time.

I think he needs to retake the LSAT, period, even if it means delaying a year. Right now he's looking at schools like Davis, which aren't even worth the tuition.

Here's the ranking of law schools, with interquartiles listed. He has a shot at Davis, but keep in mind anything below T-14 is regional so he would probably end up working around that area.

yeah dude, hastings is about as best as he could hope. he woulda been better served to stay the fourth year and fluff up his GPA with silly courses. triple major, early graduation, campus involvement won't be difference makers.
