I don’t really understand how a person who has 3.8/4.0 unweighted GPA is ranked 180. Anyways, I think you have a great chance in getting into all the those colleges. As for University of Maryland-College Park, I don’t think it’s a huge reach for you. I think it’s a low-end match…maybe around 40-55% of getting in, I would say.

Are you aware at most schools, kids throw around the title of homecoming king/queen? I don’t want to be rude, but I know at least at the local schools it isn’t something that is of “royalty.” It is more a title that people throw at someone to see how they react.

I would greatly encourage you to reconsider putting it on other apps. Adcoms will either view it as foolish or irrelevant.

I’m probably only ranked 180/325 with my 3.8 UW GPA because I went to a different school during my sophomore year that doesn’t do class ranking. I attended my current school during my freshman, junior, and now senior years. Freshman year, my rank was 236/325. Junior year it was 143/325. So as you can tell, I’ve dramatically improved throughout high school.

P.S. Homecoming king is an honor to me. Out of all the guys at my school, I won it. Sure, it may be a popularity contest, but that may be appealing to an admissions officer. They may think that I’ll fit in socially at their university

Congratulations on Penn State and the merit scholarships.
I’m a parent, not an adcom, but I am fine with putting the homecoming king award on the app- because the OP is proud of it and it is an honor at his school. I don’t think being homecoming king would be a reason to accept or reject an applicant, it’s just another aspect of his personality on the application. You don’t know who is reading the application but schools with big school spirit might consider it a plus. At our local school, the award usually goes to someone who is well liked.
