National Merit Semi-finalist... your SAT scores shouldn't be too far off your PSAT scores, try to boost them...

Hm. I'm a bit curious as to why you want to apply to the College as opposed to the SFS. The College has fine programs, granted, but it seems like you want a more international focus to your studies, which the SFS can provide.

The self-selecting nature of the SFS applicant pool can be a little intimidating, but Georgetown is becoming more selective in all of its schools, not just the SFS. You state you have an interest in development and particularly African development; if I remember correctly, the SFS essay question asks you about some global event, trend, etc... I suggest you use that to your advantage. We have a new International Development certificate program here at Georgetown, and the area of development is getting its due attention.

In 2006, we hired Andrew Natsios, President Bush's former chief for foreign aid programs and international development at USAID. He brings a wealth of experience from his career in the ranks of USAID. In addition, Carol Lancaster, a former Deputy Administrator of USAID, also brings years of theory and practice to the table when teaching her courses.

I won't bother to continue on with the merits of applying to the SFS; after all, it is your application. The College is also a great school, and it would be easier to switch majors while you're working on your core curriculum if you decided to go from one to another (as opposed to going from the SFS to COL, which could be a pleasant or unpleasant experience). COL also offers a host of majors, whereas the SFS is limited to IPOL, IECON, IPEC, CULP, Regional and Comparative Studies, STIA, and IHIST.

As for your SAT scores -- Georgetown no longer takes the writing score into account. If you can bring up your critical reading scores just a bit, and your math scores a bit, then you should be fine. I'm not a URM, I'm from California, and I still got into the SFS with a 700 V and 670 M (granted, this was a couple of years ago, but I'm just pointing out that numbers aren't everything). If you can raise those scores a bit, I think you have a shot, given your international experience.

thanks so much! Yes, in fat i mean to apply to SFS i dont know why i said the college. i am doing everything i can to fix my SAT scores, and Georgetown is one of my first choices
