Please Chance this Transfer Student!!! (UW Seattle)

I failed my first year of uni in an international school, then moved to a CC in Washington. GPA ends up at 3.2 with an associates in business, which isn’t stellar but I did become president of a club before graduating. I took three years off to help my parents financially and worked my first job, where I did really well and won some awards. I’m really earnest about finishing my bachelors now, but I will be applying for UW-Seattle’s English major. I’ve always, always wanted to study literature, since high school. I put my heart and soul on my personal statement but I feel like my gpa is still really low especially since English is quite competitive. Do I have any chance? ?

I think you have a lot of good material for your personal statement here. Schools always like to see an upward trend in achievement. How many literature courses have you taken? What were your grades like in major-related courses?

Also, the deadline has already passed for Fall '19 admissions. Did you already apply or are you thinking about next year?

I have already applied and I feel helpless reading other people’s rejection stories but their GPA is much higher than mine. I’m also concerned that they don’t accept me because I’m applying for English, but have an associates of business degree. Haven’t been to school in three years. According to the English departmen’s Transfer planning sheet, they’ve only accepted 6 people with my gpa in 2017. :frowning:

@LeonorC If you’re transferring directly from a WA State CC, the overall acceptance rate is just over 60%, which is quite a bit higher than their freshman admit rate, so don’t lose hope. The UW English program’s introductory course (ENGL202) doesn’t have a CC equivalent, so they won’t expect that you’ve taken that course. Still, did you take any literature courses, even if your AA was in business?

If not, or if you aren’t accepted, maybe you should re-enroll in CC just for a few Lit courses and then reapply.
