please chance.. ucsd and ucla! :)

Can anyone tell me what are my chances of getting into UCSD or UCLA? I'm in love with these two schools and I would be ecstatic to go to either one of them! I'm just really worried because my friend, whose profile is similar to mine, was rejected from UCSD and UCLA! AHHH!

UCLA-Slight-Reach/High Match.
UCSD-Match

It looks to me like there’s some grade inflation at your school. You got a 2 on the AP US test but you got A’s both semesters, you got a 2 on AP Bio and got B/A, and on AP Euro you got a 2 and got a B/A. Is there a reason for not passing those tests? It’s kind of weird you would get pretty decent grades in those AP classes but not pass the tests.

I’m glad UCSD is a match… that makes me so happy! but i really don’t think grade inflation exists at my school… I think i just don’t know how to take the AP tests. In my AP US class, for example, i was one out of the 2 people per semester who received As. And all of the tests that we took in my other classes were college level tests so it’s not like i was just handed A’s… I passed all the practice AP tests that we took too. I just always do really bad on AP tests and i just don’t know why (except lang comp for some strange reason). I think i get nervous… but hopefully my SAT IIs in those subjects will reflect that i know something lol
anyways, thanks for chancing me!

UCLA: Match-Slight Reach
UCSD: Match

Got a great shot at both of them. best of luck!

Ah I didn’t see your SAT II’s. They are pretty decent, so yeah I guess it doesn’t matter.

You aren’t required to send your AP’s anyway, they have no affect on admission.

Woah… i didn’t know that… there is a section on the application devoted to AP scores so i figured it was mandatory. I also didn’t know that they don’t affect admission at all… the AP coordinator at my school told me that they do (but she has been known to provide false information). She told me that colleges figure AP scores into the admissions process something like this:
6 points for taking the class
2 points for taking the test
2 points (or something pretty insignificant) for taking and passing the test
so that’s good, i’m glad they don’t count… i’ve worried about that quite a bit!

Thanks Chris, you have no idea how much of a confidence-booster your answer is!!

whew! i feel so relieved now!

Don’t know where she got that from, but from what I know, AP scores don’t affect admission at all.

they can save you a lot of money though!! it’s so ironic… when I was taking the AP US test, (on which i scored a 2) i felt so confident… i felt like i knew almost every multiple choice answer without a doubt, and i didn’t think my essay was terrible or anything. But when I took the AP Lang and Comp test (on which I scored a 5) i seriously thought I was doing so poorly… I literally felt like I was guessing on all of the multiple choice questions, and I didn’t think I analyzed any of the passages right in the Free Response section. It’s really frustrating.. And as for AP Euro and Bio, all I can say was I was an immature sophomore and didn’t take studying for the tests as seriously as I should of and I truly regret that.
