Extracurricular Activities
- National Honor Society: Been active member for three years, was instated spring of freshman year (as early as possible), and have ran and lost campaign for office twice: once for Vice President in 2007, and once for treasurer and president in 2008. Have gotten two Academic Letter Awards as a result of hard work in academics and through Honor Society. Will continue to be active with Honor Society activities and service projects (Toys for Tots, Cancer Walk-A-Thon, etc.) throughout senior year
- DECA: Active member in sophomore year, taking third place at the Regional DECA Competition in Business Law and Ethics and qualifying for the State Conference. Could not join in junior year due to lack of a business/marketing class on schedule. Will return in senior year.
- Youth Commission: Helped initiate my city's youth commission, and served on its Executive Board sophomore year. Resigned the position in junior, but still remaining active, I will return to the Board senior year as Chairman of the commission. The Youth Commission has organized many local events, and has participated in many service projects, including, but not limited to, Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, local Battle of the Bands, local All Fool's Easter Egg Hunt, and local Kiwanis club. The Commission earned the Chase Youth Award for dedicated service in 2007 and 2008.
- Hospital: Regularly volunteer at local hospital since June 2008 (ever since I had time, really).
- Library: Former regular volunteer at local library since freshman year. Had to drop due to schedule conflicts
- ASM Materials Science Camp 2008: Participated at the Seattle camp in the University of Washington campus in July 2008. Worked with Boeing engineers on carbon-fiber reinforced polymer projects, and am intending to finish some of those projects in an Intel/Siemens Talent Search Project
- Knowledge Bowl: Active participant since sophomore year. Competed at Junior Varsity level in sophomore year and placed sixth in league (out of thirty-ish). Captained second varsity team, finished sixth in league (out of twenty or so), and competed with varsity team at regional and state competitions (second in regionals, out of 42, and sixth in state, out of a lot more). Most likely will captain or co-captain Varsity team next year.
- Newspaper: Am now in an internship as a sports/arts/entertainment journalist for the local paper. In training...but about to get a Pulitzer!! kidding...but my writing skills are considered to be very good by my teachers, peers, and mentors...so, who knows?

Music:
- Violin: Have studied violin since fifth grade. Attained a silver medal in Level 1 Concerto Division in Musicfest Northwest 2007, and two silver medals in Level 3 Solo Division and Level 3 Sonata Division in Musicfest 2008. - Chamber Orchestra: Part of original school chamber orchestra in 2007, and served as Assistant Concertmaster since Fall 2007. Instated as concertmaster June 2008, and am planning various events to make orchestra the best in Eastern Washington. Eighth place at the Greater Spokane League Junior Varsity Championships 2007 in the 110m High Hurdles.

Work Experience:
- Lifeguarding: Currently am taking a lifeguarding course through the YMCA. Will start lifeguarding August 2008

Essays:
Very happy with what I have now. Will continue to edit and cut, but my readers have considered them to be nothing short of phenomenal, except that they're too long. They should be very good

That's kind of it...I probably forgot something big and will add it later...but for now, could you give me some good advice? Thanks. My prospective schools:

Yale University
Harvard University
Williams College
Brown University
University of Pennsylvania
Stanford University
Pomona College
University of Chicago
Harvey Mudd College
Georgetown University
Swarthmore College
Middlebury College
University of Southern California
University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
Reed College
Carleton College
Claremont McKenna College
New York University
Carnegie Mellon University
Boston College
Wake Forest University
University of Rochester

A long list...I know...just PLEASE...I will chance you in return!!!

Any other suggestions for colleges would be well appreciated!!

Wow, ok for the schools.

All the ivies I'm going to say reach because of your SAT scores :(. If you get them up you'll have a better chance.

University of Southern California will be a little difficult because you're OOS. Same with UMich, but you have a better chance there.

Reed can overlook some lower scores, but if you show your passion, you should be ok.

I honestly don't know about the rest. Sorry :(

I'd REALLY narrow down your list though. There is a HUGE range of schools there. What are you looking for in a college? What do you want to major in? I can help you narrow down your list if you answer those questions.

Good luck :).

Help me out :) Lol. <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/545820-thread-has-no-title-just-words-tune-chances-safeties-please.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/545820-thread-has-no-title-just-words-tune-chances-safeties-please.html</a></p>

I didn't know you could hide an AP score? Those AP scores are good, but if you had a few more 5s, it would help.

Your GPA is good but on the low side for the top-ranked schools you mentioned. Shouldn't be much of a problem, though.

Your extracirriculars are sound.

Your SATs are not bad, but again, below average for the top tier schools.

Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Upenn, and brown would all be a reach. Your best bet is that they like your ECs, because your SATs, APs, and GPA are slightly lower than what is needed to get into those schools.

Otherwise, you have a good shot at all the others.

the top ivies would be a reach but you do have awesome ECs
USC is a small reach but i think you could get in
stanford, reach
the claremont colleges you should be in
top liberal arts schools low reaches
you should be in to NYU and CMellon
Georgetown high match

thats most of it

ya you gotta narrow that list down if you want real help

here's mine:
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/546077-california-private-stanford-cal-tech-usc.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/546077-california-private-stanford-cal-tech-usc.html</a></p>

Yes, I know I have to narrow down my list; I'm planning up on ending with about 9 schools. But at the moment, I don't know where I'm going, what major I intend to have, nor do I have any clue on what I want to be when I graduate. Thus, I have a huge list of possible schools to narrow down from...if you see what I mean.

Thank you to those who have chanced me though! I really appreciate it!

Well, youre a pretty good candidate for all the schools yoy mentioned. However, Harvard and Yale are reaches as they are for most people. That being said you are a very well-rounded candidate with the GPA and the SAT hurting you. So I would think that doing well on the ACT will help you out a lot. Good luck. Can you chance me too by the way? <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/545982-hi-guys-i-would-love-hear-what-you-have-say.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/545982-hi-guys-i-would-love-hear-what-you-have-say.html</a></p>

Echo, I sent you a PM.

Could I get chances for each school, if possible? Thank you!

Harvard University: reach 15 percent
Williams College: not very familiar

Harvey Mudd College: unfam

Swarthmore College
Middlebury College
University of Southern California: match 70 percent higher if in state

New York University: no idea
Carnegie Mellon University: match 75 percent

Hey you have about the same SAT as I do, so I hope both of us can raise it because that will raise our chances as well.

Ok some of these percentages may be a little skewed but probably not the description.

Lots of ECs.. try to narrow it down to a few good ones. Remember 'Two Amazing things>Five OK things'
SATs are a tad low for Ivies .. but Top privates are reachable
Yale University-high reach
Harvard University-high reach
Williams College-low reach
Brown University-reach
University of Pennsylvania-reach
Stanford University-high reach
Pomona College-not sure
University of Chicago-low reach
Harvey Mudd College-not sure
Georgetown University-low reach/high match
Swarthmore College-low reach/high match

Ok, bro/sis whatever chance me in return ... its on the first page ' wow im SO smart it hurts!' thx

Thanks to everyone who has chanced me! Is there anyone else?

And I'd like to add Cornell and Vassar to the picture! Thanks!

Anyone else?! Please?

Your ECs are really impressive! You seem like a really well-rounded student, but not in the joining-everything-and-doing-nothing way; in the outstanding-in-lots-of-different-fields way. (:

The Ivies are a reach with your current SATs, but get your CR+M a little higher (1500+ would be great) and you'll be well into the middle 50% of most Ivies. As it is, though, a 2100 doesn't take you out of the running for anywhere, so you're in good shape.

UChicago depends on your essays, and you seem to have a talent for writing, so I could really see you getting in.

Your stats are also good enough for the LACs you're looking at (Reed, Carleton, probably Williams and Swarthmore), and since they're LACs, I feel like your chances for those schools will ride on your essays, too.

Right now, you're in great shape. With slightly better scores, you'll be in better shape. Make your personality shine through on your apps -- you've got all the numbers; all you have to do is stand out.

My thread is [url=<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/546434-2400-no-ecs-can-i-get-anywhere.html%5Dhere%5B/url">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/546434-2400-no-ecs-can-i-get-anywhere.html]here[/url</a>] if you want to return the favor... thank you!!

going to agree with wowowow on all of those except NYU is a low reach and Carnegie Mellon is a high match. Your biggest issue right now I think is the test scores, mostly the SAT.

[thread=546604]Chance me? If you would be so kind :)[/thread]
