I have already been deferred. Any thoughts would be great!

You’re probably going to get accepted. Seeing how you got deferred though, competition really seems tough this year.

You might get accepted eventually. Good luck

please chance me back

Dear stickpuck : Isn’t the real answer to spend some time in introspection as to why you were deferred? The truth is that only 20% of deferred applicants gain eventual acceptance in the regular decision round.

What have you done since your EA application to bolster your application’s status? Have you expressed continuing interest to Boston College? Have you taken a critical eye to what a 3.66 GPA and 1990 SAT I three-way means in terms of academic distribution at BC? Statistics such as yours are typically not what we see as success stories in the RD round after a deferral. Now is the time to think about bolstering your candidacy. So, what have you done to improve your case?

Dear scottj: I have recently emailed a member at the admissions office explaining how I have wanted to go to BC since I was little. I also told them more about myself and ensured them that if admitted I will apply. Hopefully I can get the president from my school (he studied at BC) to write me a recommendation. Can only cross my fingers now.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Dear stickpuck : Schedule a meeting with your school president immediately. While writing a recommendation is nice, arrange a conference call between the admissions office at Boston College and your school’s president. Be forceful and demonstrate to both sides that attending Boston College is your number one priority.

If we are talking about a childhood dream to attend Boston College, I would not want that dream to hinge on a potential letter. I would want to KNOW FOR A FACT that verbal communication praising your worthiness for BC admission took place. A fifteen minute phone call from your school’s president could well be the element to push you over the top. Now is the time to demonstrate leadership (something we always talk about in BC applications) and align this conversation.

Hard work? Yes. Needed? Absolutely.

Good luck.

BC lauds motivated kids who take initiative. Doing that would definitely put yourself up at the top of the deferral pool, especially since your credentials are slightly lacking but definitely around BC norms.
