Research: I did some research with a doctor(not a prof) at Princes Margaret Hospital which is linked and joined with University of Toronto.
When it comes to clubs, i do not join a lot but just a few selective ones i like

Schools i am looking at .. i will add more safeties soon:
Johns Hopkins(ED). U of Mich(Second Choice). Cornell . U of C

NYU . U of Washington. McGill . Rice U.

My Recommendations should be 9/10 good( Our teachers don't like giving 10/10s) So with all that being said, be brutally honest. I would rather know the truth now that later when i get rejected. What do you think my chances are at these schools. 20%? 50%? 70%? Thanks a lot to everyone. Be honest please!! thanks :)

JHU-low reach/match
U of M- Match
Cornell- reach
U of C- reach
NYU- Match
U of Wash- low reach/match
McGill- Not familiar with college
Rice- Match/low reach

Volunteering and research are great! Write good essays and I think you have a chance at Cornell and U of C, Ivies are always a crapshoot, U of M lately too, but you'll do fine

I like your volunteering because it shows 'passion'.. whatever that means. That is one of the more frequent comments i hear on CC 'you have no passion.' I think your volunteering and your leadership positions show you are a good applicant. Academically, i think you have a good shot too. But its good to always be safe . Apply to some reaches some safeties and some matches. Maybe a 4:4:2 ratio?

As for the other ones, i am not as familiar with the American process but you seem to be on par with a lot of qualified applicants. My stats are much worse than yours and i am aiming pretty high. keep it up!

You just have to keep in mind that you are competing against a lot of American students for the same spots at those universities. Being that you are from Canada and there are many reputable universities there, it may be harder for you compared to other international students. Diversity (ethnicity, etc.) helps though.

^ not necessarily a bad thing. international acceptance is worse because of the fact that it is need aware for intl students... not because they are international.. this is true with JHU for sure because i asked the admissions officer. Mashrur does not need financial aid so it does not matter.

I don't know much about international admissions but I'll give it a shot.

JHU - low reach (PreMed is their staple)
U of Mich - high match (OOS Admission is tough)
Cornell - reach
U of C - reach
NYU - Match
U of Wash - match
McGill - no idea
Rice- low reach

Hope that helps! I have (kind of) the same academic stats as you - probably a little less competitive, but if you want to comment on my chances I'd really appreciate it!

McGill is not at all a safety, it is a highly selective program. I say this mostly because you're an OOP student (?) though, there are very few spots for OOP students. Secondly, it's probably not a possible option because you haven't gone through the second year of the CEGEP science stream / taken first year university courses which are a requirement.

Now here comes selectivity: I was admitted into Cornell (A&S) and a Sci. major in McGill, but not even waitlisted for McGill premed. You should know that it's a special 2 year program for very ambitious (usually) Quebec residents and you are automatically accepted into med school upon completion, provided you do relatively well. If it were just a life/health sciences (or even like UMich's pre-health professions) program it would be an easy match! Usually they're looking for CEGEP Science students with a minimum CRC of 34 (37+ and you're safe, probably...) and I know people who have gotten into Penn (Wharton), Cambridge and Duke with CRCs of 30-33. You need about 400 hours of volunteer experience, so I'd say that part of your application is perfect! :) If you do get to the interview I get the feeling that you will give a good impression.

They can't tell too much from your test scores, you have to understand that McGill's generally lower #s are for attracting Arts students who pay much higher fees, there are very few Americans in McGill outside of Arts programs... And also that it's hard to make sense of SAT scores when it comes to McGill's science programs, the system is completely different (more advanced).

I'm not familiar with OOP (?) cases, you can give me your marks for Cals, Linear (if applicable), Chems, Organic(s) (maybe you took 1 in the summer?), Physics (these are the most important) and the class averages, that could probably help... To give you an indication, a Quebec student with around a 85-90 average up to grade 11 will get into the best CEGEP Science program (like Brebeuf and Marianoolis) and the top 5% (?) of that CEGEP year might get CRCs of 34+, so we're talking about a very competitive program and to make it worse, you're OOP.

Either way you have a very impressive record and your rank looks very good, I think you stand a pretty good chance for all the universities you mention but JHU, but even that's a reach looking @ their stats.
