Please comment on B-J?

Hi I've put B-J as first choice on my housing application form, but would like to know more about it before it becomes final.

How was the...
1. people?
2. food?
3. facilities (esp. bathrooms)?
4. location?

Thanks!

People - I stayed a night with Dodd-Mead in Burton Judson. The students were generally very nerdy but very nice. I don’t really behave like a nerd, but I really liked them. Not attractive if that matters to you haha.
Food - The food was decent. The omelets are delicious. They have froyo!
Facilities - Communal co-ed bathrooms. Co-ed vs. single-sex is voted on by the floor. The bathrooms were not attractive but plenty clean. Overall, I didn’t especially like that it was communal, but I think I prefer communal over private because a UChicago employee cleans communal bathrooms but not private ones. Apparently there’s plenty of privacy because there’s so few people on each floor.
Location - It’s not bad. The new South Campus dorm probably helps liven up the area. It’s not far from the quad, but a lot of stores in Hyde Park are around 54th Street, which is a little far if you like shopping. There’s a bus that stops right outside BJ but I don’t know where it goes. Apparently crossing the Midway sucks during the winter, but I wouldn’t know about that.

I personally am debating between B-J, Maclean, and Max P. The kids at B-J had good things to say about Maclean, and it is much closer to the more attractive areas of Hyde Park. Max P is really awesomely located and the kids there are probably more similar to the typical American college student than the kids at B-J.

Thanks Calexico. I think I like that B-J is more nerdy. Now my only worry is how bad it really is to have to cross the midway in winter :s

You’ll be fine, it’s two blocks!!! - former BJ resident
