Please evaluate my chances! Sorry, and thanks!

So I have a dilemma. I'm not sure whether I should apply EA to Stanford or ED to Cornell. I personally know I have very slight, if any chance, at Stanford. On the other hand, I believe I have a better chance. However, Stanford appeals much more than any other school, and I would really love to become a part of it. So, do I have any chance?--or shall I apply to Cornell instead, my second choice.

I don't mean to say that Stanford is superior to Cornell--Stanford is my number one choice for various reasons, such as atmosphere and location. oh, and weather!

Here are some of my stats:

Asian, Male
SAT: 2300 (800 M, 750 W, 750 CR)
SAT II: 780 Biology M, 800 Math IIC, 800 Korean (I'm a native speaker)
GPA: 3.89 (I calculated the "Stanford" way, unweighted, and not counting freshman year.)
Rank: Top 2%

Extra Curr:
Yearbook Staff (11,12)
Yearbook Editor (12)
Church band drummer (10,11,12)
Youth Leader at my church (11,12)
Sunday School teacher (11,12)
SSC (Students Serving Community) Secretary(11) President (12)
Cross Connection (A Christian Club) Music Director (12)

Community Service:
Countless hours from church
~200 hours at a local hospital

Work Experience:
Part-time tutor (10,11,12)
Activities Director at a local childcare/educational institution (this summer)

Awards:
Sadly, none.

Recs:
Teacher: Assuming great.
Counselor: great

Thanks in advance!

Go SCEA Stanford. ED Cornell is a waste of your early application.

You have a legitimate chance of getting in. Good luck!

I think you've got a shot (though I like zephyr's "legitimate chace" better) at Stanford SCEA if you write great essays. Honestly, just try it -- if you don't, you'll always regret it and wonder "what if?"

thx guys! anymore inputs?

Wow. Definitely do the Stanford SCEA. The general consensus is that Cornell RD is "easy" to get into, and I'm certain you'll do it.

I was wondering if I have a chance at stanford also:
I hae gotten tons of help on my ACT and SAT this summer. My school won't let you take the SAT until your Senior year, honestly, they are in control of the application packets and test materials. I also hear stanford doesn't accept scores after Nov 1 of this year. I still must take my SAT and ACT. By the Way my pre-tests have looked over the past couple of weeks duringthe summer, I have calulated them out to be a 28.

GPA-3.83
class rank- 28/315
class this year-
world civ., AP chem, AP cal, Ap frenchIV, CP english, Anatomy and Phisiology

ACT- 20; guessed everything after #30, no test prep here, but went out of state to get help this summer

SAT-Not taken

EC- 7 year varsity Cross-Country and Track, ocatagon club(volunteer group) National honors society, take care of horses, volunteer at nursing home, peer mentor/tutor at middle school, band, involved in community parades fall and winter (dressed as frosty the snow man), tennis,

Awards- French one award, runner up in Rotary speech competition, who's who among american high school students, national honor roll, national society for high school scholars, Track and Field state champion, All state team(#1 in state out of all schools), student athlete of the year, student council representative, captain of cross-country and track, youth salute council, alternate for scholarship program in YFU exchange program, raduate of NSF summer program, most improved in college Math, runner up in foreign language competion, winner of all Track and Field invitationals, vice president of the octagon club, and SADD club

interests/talents- paint, play the piano, play the guitar, crochet, cook, sail, fish, write music(lyrics/chords), yoga, research trees, bird watching(know difference between diff. birds), crochet, involved in student polls and national/international affair movements, member of tobacoo free kids, build bird houses, photography

I know my scores are bad now, but say I got a 29 or 32 (which is possible considering my practice tests) on the ACT and a 2230 on the SAT, would my chances still be slim at stanford. I heard of applicants with worse stats than mine and SAT/ACT scores who still got in.

sparkledust, luckily for you, you don't have to send that ACT score in.

Both of you guys have a chance - about 12%, just like everybody else...

What about me? I want to go to Stanford too.

StepIntoThisReality,
You can try it, but that suspension will really hurt you at schools like Stanford. They have enough applicants, and don't need to take any chances.

Point taken. Does this bar me admission from most selective schools?

You never know, you might get in, but don't count on it. Apply to some rolling admitions schools, so you can be sure that you have a place to go in the fall.

nngmm, so you mean to tell me even with my 20 on the ACT(which I will definately pull up to a 29 or higher by the end of this year) I still have a slight chance of competion on getting into stanford?brb

I wouldn't get your hopes up if I were you. I think he was assuming if you got a higher score, and of course he was only saying that anyone has a chance. Be like me and try your best to concentrate on schools that will more than likely accept you (though I'm still having a little bit of trouble :)).

how will i know what schools want to accept me. The ones that sent me a letter of intent and recruit are;
Princeton, NYU, Northwestern, Kansas state, us military academy, us naval academy, university of south carolina, university of connecticuit, and many more, but I have not recieved anything from stanford. Should I stick with the colleges who are interested in me then. Princeton is a great school, and so is the naval academy, they both said if I pull up more scores I will be a great candidate. I am already a top candidate at the Naval Academy. I don't know, maybe I'm being unrealistic? BTW are you in the class 2006?

sparkledust,
no, there is no chance for you with 20 on ACT, but if you get 32, like you are planing, then maybe.

I'm in the class of 2006, yes. Are you sure they're recruiting you? Those are just advertisements. At the beginning of this summer, the very first application I got in the mail was from Yale, and I've never expressed any interest in the college. These colleges just get your name through national testing dates or from questionnaires you might have filled out at some point, and then they bombard you with their propaganda. Don't base silly advertising on which colleges you want to attend.

sparkledust,
letters of interest don't mean anything as far as your chances for admission go. There is no way of predicting your chances for schools like Stanford or Princeton. No stats will get you in (but low stats will keep you out). Some state schools have a formula for admissions, in those you can know pretty much for sure. It is a good idea to apply early to at least one rolling admissions school.

Would my EC's keep me out of Stanford? Or do I have a decent shot regardless?

I'm getting very nervous, with the deadline approaching like there's no tomororw!

hey you have a better shot than i do so if you're worried....

Let's just hope that we both get in!
